I'd imagine that thread will start the afternoon of the Tulane game...

I think Southwestern will beat Rice as a B division team facing the A division team. Coach Bowman is one of the best coaches in the league, A or B and he gets the most out of his players. Southwestern lost a significant part of their offense with the departure of Caldwell, Beermaker, and Emmel, the first two graduated and Emmel transfered to Tulane. However, look for Matt Gainey and Mike Jeffcoat to be stars in the B division and for Southwestern to win it all in the B. Just an early season prediction for yall...

A&M v. Tulane

Postby OldBalls on Sat Jan 29, 2005 5:50 pm

Unofficial from College Station: A&M 23 Tulane 6

Word from A&M coaches and fans:

A&M showed a little different look than previous years with middie scoring playing a more important part in the game's outcome.

Both A&M goalies got time in the cage and showed signs of picking up right where Matt (a.k.a. Fat Pat) left off last year.

To put an end to early rumors of the score being run up, the starting attack was out mid-way through the third quarter along with the starting middie lines.

Tulane looked like a team that deserved to make that jump from Div. B to Div. A.

Any word from Austin, concerning the UT v. UNT matchup? I am curious to see how UT started off the season. I am sure that both teams were pumpt up after their close game last year, could UNT provide any early upset in the LSA? Someone tell me before I go crazy!

Honestly?

How can a coach not believe in sliding?

Easy - the top 5 teams in the USL-MDIA preseason poll mostly never slide. If you don't have guys who pride themselves on one-on-one D and take personal responsibilty for their offensive opponent, you probably won't win at the upper-levels of this league.

You can't be serious about this comment. The top 5 MDIA teams slide constantly. That is one of the many reasons that RMLC and WCLL teams destroy their high scoring opponents in the national championship tournament.
WCLL and RMLC defenses are extremely complex and involve multiple and constant slides as well as changing into and out of zone coverages.

LSA weekend #1 scores updates

Postby Brent Burns on Sat Jan 29, 2005 7:57 pm

So far, I got from different teams this afternoon:

UT-Dallas at UT-Arlington, postponed due to unplayable field.

Southwestern 10 Rice 5

Stephen F. Austin 13 TCU 8

Texas A&M 22 Tulane 6

I got these scores in the following order received via email.

I know I am still waiting to hear from the game scores from:

Baylor 13 at Oklahoma State 0 (confirmed by email from BU and OSU)
North Texas 7 at UT-Austin 16 (confirmed by email from Texas)
Nicholls State at St. Edwards
SMU at Texas Tech

SMU and Tech

Postby Pip on Sat Jan 29, 2005 9:12 pm

I heard that Texas Tech beat SMU by one point. I think the score was something like 10-9.

Oh to rumor mongering about scores...

The game in College Station was pretty interesting. A&M showed a little different look with the offense and Chris(?) Deeke and Tab were just sick at times. This is a very young team, very talented with great senior leaders. I think everyone will see the return of a very powerful A&M offense this season.

The only question that I had when I left the game is how good is A&M's defense this season? A&M controlled the clock for most of the game so there weren't really any opportunities to gage the Aggie defense. They played two goalies who both demonstrated some great abilities...but there wasn't a lot on cage to test them.

Tulane doesn't have a lot of depth but they had two players that show promise, 12 at Attack and 26 on Defense. I think with a little more depth Tulane will have an opportunity to contend in the LSA A division.

What is the deal with SMU's schedule. 3 division B teams and not a single OOC challenge? Cake walk!!!!!!

LaxC21, 2 questions:

1) Were both goalies a step down from Hughes?

2) Deeke playing that well, does he play like a freshmen at times?

1) I knew Deeke was legit.

2) If the offense controls the ball, it does not matter if their defense is poor.
