I know this may seem like an upset, but having watched SOU on saturday against montana i can say that i don't see it as an upset at all. SOU is very physically tough, as all of us Oregon teams already knew, but this season they have added a serious amount of talent offensively. They are especially lucky to have a new bruiser of a midfielder from Buffalo who can dominate on offesnse and defense. I can honestly say that SOU is a real threat to almost any team in the league and everyone should keep an eye out for them.
The true test of a player's character is not how he wins, but how he loses.

I guess when I praised the uprising of Albertson and Western Oregon and their emergence in the B division of the PNCLL. . .I left out Southern Oregon. What a HUGE win over Whitman. Congrats to boys at Southern Oregon U. . .

Kudos
Impressive seond-year showing by SOU, WOU and by Albertson. Very surprising that all three teams have gotten so good so quickly. This bodes well for our league and the top-to-bottom strength of our B Division.

mont lax
Montana 20 SOU 8
This game was highlighted with hits on both sides. I heard an SOU middie left with a broken collar bone, dont quote me. There was a lot of slashing, cross-checking and high hits. Freshman Will Freihofer had 4 goals along with a couple other hat-trickers
Montana 16 WOU 12
I hate to say this but the story of this game was about the officiating. The calls were very lopsided, ticky-tac and definitely did not go both ways. Montana came out with 4 goals in the first 3 mins and from there it was a game that saw WOU man up for about a half. Montana was able to pull away in the last 4 mins. Transfer attackmen Zander Ault had 6 goals.

Right now it looks as if Montana, PLU, and WWU are the teams to beat. Which was expected preseason. So it would be fairly easy to predict a game result involving one of these three teams. However, it seems like every other team in the B league is playing in tight games and it is unclear who will edge everyone out for the other three playoff spots. Games are going to be tough to pick.

I will let Willamette make their own comments, but I will say that things in Salem gave a worrisome impression in Boise. The Bearcats put on a gutsy performance, with only 12 guys, against a very strong Yotes squad. It was a long day as the scoreboard indicates, and they even withstood a few heckling fans and played with class. Only a handful of players even had matching shorts, and their jerseys were pinnies with tape numbers. I think the forfeit just came down to the fact that the game was optional, and they decided to option out. Hopefully this was just a freak occurence and all is well in Salem. It is extremely encouraging as a fan of Lax in the NW to see so many teams becoming competitive and really enjoy playing. However, there are always those teams who struggle, and they are the ones who really need the support and encouragement from the rest of us. Keep your heads up 'Cats, your on the field competeing, and that is a win. The rest will come in due time.

At what point did the game become "optional?" Was it when they scheduled it to make it 2 games in one weekend of travel? or just because it was against an A team?
"Optional" is not an excuse that sits well with me. What if my parents came to visit me at school that weekend hoping to watch me play? who pays that cost? field? officials? I'm not trying to pass judgement on Willamette or its players, with such few numbers, 1 or 2 people wanting to opt out means too few players and its tough. I wish them the best of luck in turning things around, but I feel horrible for the Boise "It's not a State" State players, family, & fans. Oh, and the rest of the league that footed the bill for referee travel, and the teams that played with 2 man crews on Sunday.
All that said, as lax continues to take off in Oregon, Willamette will get more and more players each year. The groundwork laid now will create a completely different program in 5 years, good or bad. It's up to their leadership & team to decide what their future may become in both the short term and long term. I know that I am willing to help in anyway that I can (be it from Tacoma), and I'm sure there are other teams in Oregon also willing to help as well.

I fully agree with what you are saying Kyle. If you schedule a game, you need to get it done. But again, please keep in mind, Willamete should have their say, I am just going off what I witnessed not making excuses for them. We have all been in the spot that BSU found themselves in this weekend, and a lot of their players stuck around to watch the ACI/WU game as well.
