PNCLL 2008 All-Conference
totally unrelated to the subject but maybe next year the pncll should have a forum for both A and B division. There are at least two completely different conversations in here. I don't think Div A or Div B care much about the other nearly as much as they care about their own division. Just a thought. FYI I'm hella selfish but I still got a lot of love for my buddies playing Div. B.

We still never had anybody average over 2 assists per game on the season. I guess I'll have to learn how to put in a more well rounded offense. If you're guys have pulled this off it's a tremendous accomplishment... but a bit suspect to me.
On another note... love how good the "B" guys have been playing this year, seriously. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Final Four in Missoula soon.
Gonna have to agree with Mark on this one, the roster is down to like 16 guys and if you get a chance to see WOU play you'll see that they are about as unselfish as it gets, plus the keepers in this league can get pretty suspect and WOU has guys unafraid to shoot it from the outside, so a lot of assists are just regular passes a guys desicdes to rip, which is still an assist, so maybe it's not a beuatiful crease finish, but every WOU stat can be backed by film. I suggest everyone get their own Christopher Curtis, he can be purchased for 599$ at any Best Buy.

Kevin, I also love stats. So I was bored/being a forum nerd and I came up with these stats. They are the top 6 teams from each division with their team scoring broken down. It lists the assists, goals, and percentage of goals that were assisted under the team name. It also shows the number of players scoring per team in parentheses next to the team name.

Looking at these teams top to bottom it is kind of consistent when going from the most percentage of assists to least when comparing divisions. The only disparity I can associate between the two is the number of players rostered and scoring points. The average number of players scoring points for those six DI teams are17. That is three more players scoring than the highest DII team. The average for DII is 11 players per team scoring. It makes sense to me that if the scoring is going to be spread among more players but the percentage of assisted goals is comparable than DII will have more players averaging more assists.
…. This might be the longest post I have ever made….. and it’s kind of useless….. God I’m a nerd…… because I actually enjoyed doing this…..
P.S. I am fairly certain that when our coach referred to a well-rounded offense it was much more of a comparison to how we play ball now rather than we did in the past. I don't think that he was comparing our offense as a better one than yours, but who knows that Mark Haner is a crazy guy. Don't listen to his offensive talk though, we all know that all he could do was rip from the outside

Makes me wish I hadn't only kept track of Willamette's goals this year. Well, there's only so much you can do with a one person table crew.

Which is why I only allowed an assist if I remembered it and multiple people backed it up as an assist. Plenty of my players claimed more assists than they got.

Sorry.... as you can see from the post time it was 4 or 5 am when I did this so i just did the top 6 teams from each division. I was getting a little delirious by the end with just those teams. I am sure that before the weekend is out I will have time to do the entire PNCLL. My personal apologies to all of the teams that I left out, that does not have any bearing on whether I think your guys should be up for accolades.

you are totally right. We never use our game film for help with stats or making our team better. In fact we don't even let our guys see the actual game footage, just our sweet clips on youtube!!!!! As soon as the new video is edited we make Chris delete the actual film......

I dont know how other teams define assists but I know that Bubba will take the assist away if a player so much as side steps a defender after catching a feed or juggles the catch before shooting. Only 'Bang-Bang' goals get assists at PLU.

That is the rule as I understand it.
Any evasion of a defender, other than the goalie, by any movement of the body or stick rules out an assist. The point of an assist being that it was a great pass to find the OPEN man. Also, a commonly misconstrued aspect of the rule in terms of lacrosse is that if you take more than two steps (like in basketball) it is not an assist. Actually a goalie can make an outlet pass to an open attack on the other side of the defense and he can run 40 yards and make a shot and score and it was assisted by the goalie (as long as no other evasion was made).
