What a great tourney this year!!

I liked the both venues, and the variety of the refs for each game, they did a great job this year!!

I was disappointed in the total attendance.... I thought there would be more.

Also, I did get reprimanded for not sending my team out for introductions if you were at the games and noticed that...the MSHSL didnt like that idea...

Great job to all involved!!

One thing with the tourney that could of been a bit different is have it at a more prestigious spot, Wayzata is nice with their turf field and large stands, but it is your average Classic Lake stadium. What about seeing if it can be played at a unique atmosphere like St. Thomas, Macalaster, U of M, Hamline, Parade (best backdrop i have ever seen), TCF Bank Stadium, Metrodome etc...

If i were to pick i would say Hamline, then TCF when that opens.

I think it's also important to have a host venue with an investment in HS lacrosse. MattD can correct me but I'm pretty sure the MSHSL bids the site out. If that's the case, it appears that Wayzata provided the most attractive bid. It probably helps that their coach is the current President of the Minnesota Coaches Association.

I was somewhat disappointed that they used the football field dimensions, although I understand it if they were trying to preserve the track.

I don't know if the college venues would see the same kind of benefit for hosting the event. St Thomas would have to be willing to actually paint the field rather than tape it. Hamline has virtually no parking and very little lacrosse presence on campus. Macalester is an intriguing idea, but they are more closely aligned with the MBSLA through the St Paul Celts and Ben Mooney. Parking is a real issue there as well.

Parade is ~$100-$130/hour lighted and would have no built-in support group (like a high scholl booster club) to oversee the event. There is also a lot of red tape regarding the sale of concessions or souvenier items at Parade.

It was pretty sparse at the start of the first semifinal, which is probably what Mr. Horn is referring to.

As is often the case, these things are often much more complicated when you're actually involved in negotiating them than when you're looking at it from outside.

As to the dimensions, the NFHS allows field dimensions from 53 1/3 to 60 yards wide, with no preference given for any specific dimensions, so I don't think that should be an issue. Some teams play on the narrow field all year, while others play on a wide field all year. I would have major issues if they wanted to shorten the length or something.

wow...guess you didnt see the total number of attendance slightly below last years...

I was referring to the championship game, yes, thats a great photo of the middle of the stands, but the end behind the EP bench was a bit empty, and the other side of the stadium wasnt even used....

I was hoping to see a total number for this year close to 3000

heres a fun game to play, how many UMLL alums in the photo??

Ive got 5 so far...

I understand this, but would have preferred to see a wider field. Changes the riding/clearing game substantially.

Not an indictment, just an opinion.

I know that events like the MN state Hockey tournament is held at the Excel Center and the football championships are held in the Metrodome.... but what do they do with other state championship events in MN?

Are they held on campus by one of the participating teams OR are they always held a neutral site?

I think it's kind of like the Super Bowl: the host gets picked prior to the season, but if you happen to make it that far you might end up with a virtual home game.

I think for swimming they use the U of M because that's the only facility that's big enough. For cross country running, XC skiing, downhill skiing, and track, I think they do the same sort of thing for the same reason. As I look through, most of the sports do it at a large neutral site (other than the adapted sports, which seem to do it at host schools).

Of course, lacrosse is smaller than a lot of these sports. I don't think we can justify the metrodome like they do for soccer and football. Personally, I'd like to see us avoid the ridiculousness of the girls hockey tournament, which moved from a cozy environment it came close to filling to the cavernous Xcel that made it look like no one was there.

Finvik has the hat on backwords, CM has the shaved head with glasses.

I think.
