Still awaiting the final results of the following games:

Texas Tech at SMU
Rice at Texas A&M

Hopefully, someone (coach or player) from SMU and Texas A&M will chime in.

The 2006 LSA season started with heavy rains which is nice after such a very long drought, but it does wreak havoc on games. I do hope the games listed above have been played.

Rice at Texas A&M

Postby Pip on Sat Jan 28, 2006 6:33 pm

Rice played at Texas A&M today, even through heavy rains. The field was totally flooded. Rice opened up with the first goal and A&M responded quickly. They then traded goals until A&M finally started to pull ahead taking advantage of a few man-up situations. The score was something like 9-3 at half time. A&M then came out solid again in the second half, and except for a few mental mistakes, finished the game stronly winning something like 18-4? I'm not sure of the final score, someone else will hopefully have the result. Thanks to Rice for coming out with a big squad and playing hard in the rain.

Received a confirmed score from Peter Darrell of Rice (note that LaxC21 earlier stated it was an unofficial score betwixt A&M and Rice):

Texas A&M 19
Rice 4

I also received an email from Nathan Tabb who confirmed that there will be no game between Baylor and A&M tomorrow after following up on LaxC21's post in this thread.

I know Div. B doesn't get much play on the LSA forum, but if anyone else has any thoughts on games as the season goes on, it would be great to read them.

For today:

St. Edwards - 15
OU - 3

I will say that OU plays hard and has no want for intensity. I think if they continue to play with that mindset, and continue to improve, their future looks bright, even when they eventually step up to Div. A.

St. Ed's had a sloppy start, but managed to shore it up as the game progressed. Solid effort from the defense in the second half.

Hmm ... I know its very early in OU's lacrosse history, but I thought (maybe a little too wishfully) that they'd come out a little stronger. Not a bad showing by any means though. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out for them. I'm confident their head is in the game, as I recall seeing quite a few of them in attendance at our game vs. SMU. Pretty cool.

In response to yeagy's question: The university official decided to cancel the A&M v. Baylor game after seeing the field following the A&M v. Rice game.

A&M has two primary fields and a secondary fields to play on. Yesterday A&M decided to they would play the Rice game on the secondary field in order to save the primary fields for later in the year. Surprisingly, the secondary field held up very, very well and looked playable for this afternoon. Considering the field is only used for secondary purposes and never used during the week because it does not have lights, the decision to call the game off seemed odd...but that of course is the university's call to make.

I hope in the future that A&M and the university is able to work together to develop a better policy to determine when games should be canceled due to weather and field conditions.

I am not a member of the team, but I was concerned that because of the great weather today, many people who are not directly involved in the program would show up for the game...and I was correct in my assumption. I personally went to the fields where I met several people who drove from around the state to attend today's game. They were, to say the least, very disappointed that it was not going to be played.
