I don't care what conditions you use to play in. I don't care if western got in their cars and left. Western was told by certain "senior captains" of Utah that the refs HAD been called and it was canceled. What did you expect Western to do wait around AFTER they had been told the game was off, when they had a long drive ahead of them? In regards to the 48 hr rule it is an awkward rule but what is funny is a big supporter of the rule was one of the coaches from utah at the league meeting. Yes this game did matter or there wouldn't be a argument.
If this league wants to be legit honor your rules across the board A division and B division. Simple as that.
48 hour rule

that's funny, because we don't have any "senior captains." and for the last time, WE did not make the decision alone. western was every bit involved in the cancellation of this game as we were. if western had indeed wanted to play that day, the game would have been played. if the whole situation was a simple conversation between two people, it would have been as follows:
western: man, this snow sucks
utah: yeah for sure, i don't know if it will get better either
(looks up at nasty gray sky)
western: is the field gonna be playable? we don't wanna get anyone hurt or anything.
utah: i dunno, lets wait for more people to get here. we might be able to get the fieldhouse for later today or tonight, but who knows on short notice.
western: we have to get up to boise too.
utah: yeah, that's true.
(utah and western then discuss amongst themselves the possibility of rescheduling for sunday on western's return home to colorado.)
western: alright, we're just gonna head up to boise now, so we're not driving through the night, and then sunday will be tentively scheduled for when we will play you guys, alright?
utah: okay sounds good.
(utah players stick around for awhile passing around since they were all up there anyways.)
almost an hour later...
utah: man, the sun's out, and all the snow has melted, we should have just played today. gee golly willikers, hindsight is twenty twenty, huh?
(refs show up at supposed gametime)
utah: sorry, no game today. maybe on sunday though. the field was covered in snow an hour ago.
referees: this spring utah weather is nuts.
on sunday, an email is sent to utah players by their coach informing us that western contacted him and just decided to drive straight home instead of playing us. the end.
there you all go. that's what happened. how scandalous.

Raising awareness
For the record the whatever the outcome or whatever the decision is on this Im glad it hopefully did two things.
1. Raised awareness about uniformity and enforcing of rules.
2. Got new members for and posting on these forums.
Both teams have good points and at this point i think both teams could throw there hands up in the air and say whatever let teams be teams. From what i know both teams still respect each other and hopefully no bridges were burned by either team as this league to continue to be successful has to keep team respect and jsut good relations. Hopefully the matters was or is resolved and both teams are happy either way lets hope the RMLC gets a little more uniform in rules and rulings.
Thanks for the rants and raves and humor on some posts and also the interest.
