8:00 P.M. TOURNEY Announcement to be Posted here!!!!

Postby Rob Graff on Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:42 pm

MEETING - two possibilities still.

TRACK A - if the D2 games go on tomorrow and are not pre-empted (note the 9:15 go/no go call that will be made), meet at Clemens stadium on the SJU campus, and after the last game is over, SJU has agreed to find a room for us to meet.

TRACK B - If the D2 games ARE NOT PLAYED tomorrow, we are going to postpone the meeting. And, no - we do not have any idea at this point when that meeting will be if we are on this path.

Notice will be given on this page.

Weather (Snow) at the SJU fields requires cancellation of the D2 Games planned for today and tomorrow. This weather requires the following actions/decisions. These decisions have been made after numerous hours of consultation between the entire executive board, consultation with the MCLA president, and numerous phone calls to team coaches/leaders.

1. The UMLL executive board will be exploring options to hold the D2 Tournament next weekend (May 3/4). It is possible that the D2 tournament will be modified to a "Final 4" type competition. The final shape and timing of the D2 tournament will be dependent upon field availability and officials considerations. Final announcement on timing and location will be announced as soon as possible.

2. There will be NO UMLL MEETING TODAY OR TOMORROW. The UMLL EB will announce a new meeting date later this week.

3. There will not be a Division 1 tournament. The EB, including elected student representatives from U of M and UST, awards the UMLL Division 1 Championship and AQ to the national tournament to University of Minnesota Duluth, effective immediately. Although fields access is something that could be explored for Div 1 tourney, the officials community is already stretched to the maximum as a result of the shortened HS season and numerous HS rescheduling.

If there are further questions feel free to raise them at the league meeting next week.

Thanks to all the teams who have been patient through this process, and all those who have aided the EB in finding a resolution.

I second those words. I understand all the hard work and hours put into trying to get this to work out, and all the weather issues we have had all season. Again, thank you for all your hard work Executive Board.

Thanks to the EB and everyone else involved in getting this resolved. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Congrats to UMD on a great season and good luck at the national tournament. Represent the UMLL well.

I would also like to second that and apologize for my post last night (which I deleted soon after). Thank you very much to the UMLL EB for their hard work throughout this whole ordeal. This hard work and patience from the EB and the other team leaders is what makes the UMLL the best conference in the MCLA. I'm sure that whatever the EB decides for the D2 will be great.

On a side note, congrats to UMD for an awesome season, and the D1 Championship. Go get em in Dallas and bring a trophy back to Minnesota!

I am a little upset that the Championship was awarded. UMD was the regular season champion, but the tournament always seemed to add some wrinkle. Maybe someone else could have won it. I remember a few years when it seemed like every team but the Bulldogs had no chance, but another team made it close or won the game. The UMLL A could have had 2 teams qualify if that had happen this year.

All of that said I understand why the decision was made by the EB. The members are all great guys, and they made another good decision given their resources. Nobody in the UMLL has come close to UMD this year. They are an elite team, and I think my biggest issue is not being to able to see them play this year.

"Disappointed" might be a better word. I think the UMLL board made the best decision they could make, and while it is true that everyone wants to see the games played because there could be an upset--that's what's great about sports--I would guess that most teams are at peace with the decision.

I do not envy the UMLL board in having to make such decisions, but I think they do a fine job in running all aspects of the league.

Disappointing decision for all involved for sure... But there isn't any other single UMLL Div 1 team besides UMD getting votes in the latest poll. You think one other team that kept it close with UMD, but lost in the UMLL tournament, would have jumped all the way into the top 14?

There was absolutely no chance this year that a 2nd UMLL Div 1 team would have made it to Dallas unless someone else upset UMD for the conference championship (& got the UMLL's AQ).

I agree nobody came close to UMD this year. I think we all know that they are the best team in the UMLL, but strange things can happen when you play the game.

I'm gunna agree with most people here that are a little upset. I won't debate that anyone would have beaten Duluth, and that Duluth shouldn't be heading to Dallas, but this does take away from the "Playoff" atmosphere. You never know when it comes down to the playoffs, and its probably a little dissapointing for some senior players. The UMLL championship is an awesome tournament to play in or spectate, its just a shame it had to come to this.

On the other hand i do respect the EB's decision, and it probably was the correct move to make.
one more step to greatness...

I think laxattack27 hit the nail on the head for some of the lower ranked teams. While I know and want to thank the UMLL EB for doing all that they could, one disappointment I had for my players was of course the for the seniors, who were ready to play their final games. I know there are others in the league who probably share the same sentiment. However, I do want to congratulate UMD and wish them luck (and better weather) in Dallas. Finally I think Jon said it best:
