Aggies aren't ranked high enough to get an at large. Has the LSA ever sent two teams to nationals? old guys, help us out...

Beware of the teams flying under the radar. No pressure + nothing to lose = Golden State Warriors syndrome

As an old guy on these boards, the LSA, since the inception of the USLIA National Tournament through the creation of the MCLA has never sent more than one team to the tourney, always just the AQ. There was one year, I believe in 2002, when the Aggies won the LSA Championship, Texas was in the mix for an at large that year, although one was not handed to them.

The Aggies are the only team to ever win a first round game at the tourney; vs. Tennessee in 2000 and Chico State in 2003. The Aggies lost to the eventual National Champion, Colorado State, that year (2003) in a thrilling quarterfinal game.

The only teams to ever represent the LSA at the National Tourney, either USLIA or MCLA are:

-Trinity in 1997 (Texas won the league, but played in the NIRSA National Tourney at the time, so Trinity went to the USLIA tourney)
-Texas in 1998
-Texas A&M in 1999
-Texas A&M in 2000
-Texas A&M in 2001
-Texas A&M in 2002
-Texas A&M in 2003
-Texas in 2004
-Texas Tech in 2005
-Texas in 2006
-Texas A&M in 2007

I think my history serves me correctly.................

1998

Postby Karl Lynch on Thu Apr 17, 2008 6:41 pm

1997 - Texas
1998 - Trinity.

I believe this is correct. I coached the Trinity team in 1997 and it was the year after I left that they played in the National tournament. I believe it was the second year of the tourney.

Upon further review, Karl is correct. Texas was there the first year, led by Bob Korba. By year two of our event in St. Louis (our first year event in St. Louis), the UT sports club director mandated that the Longhorns participate in the NIRSA event - in lieu of any other club sport national championship event.

I had forgotten that you coached Trinity back in the day Karl. Where is Kol Striker when you need him?

After checking out what Chris Park said and what Karl said, those information are correct. I still remember that year about Texas going to NIRSA because I was surprised that the Longhorns did not go to the tourney in St. Louis. Wow, that was 11 years ago.

Texas actually won in 99 as well. This was the end of their 5 year run and the beginning of the Aggies 4 year run. BUT, there was still the NIRSA issue, so the Aggies went to the show in our place. I even think the score was 14-13. Same score in the regular season as well.

Bronson is correct regarding 1999 and why the Aggies went. Karl is also correct regarding Trinity.

The Aggies first round win in 2000 over one of the top seeded teams, Tennesse, was special because of the impression they left the year before when they went to St. Louis last minute in place of Texas and had pretty much every scoring record in the books for the tourney set against them. Pick up a National Tourney guide and I believe the Aggies hold the distinction for most goals allowed in a tourney game back in 1999. Give them credit though, five starters were unable to make the trip since it was so last minute. My how the league and structure has advanced.

Just another history lesson for those young whiper snappers out there trolling the boards!

Is there any chance the LSA AQ would not go up against Michigan? They have blown out every team they've played this year. Big change from the weak performance they gave last year in Dallas.

Coincidence? I'll give Karl the benefit of the doubt and say this was due to his previous recruiting classes maturing and coming together after he moved on from the program...

Recruiting class

Postby Karl Lynch on Sat Apr 19, 2008 2:52 am

I left in 1997 because I graduated from law school and took a job in El Paso.

Dave Hawkins coached the 1998 version of the Trinity Tigers. He holds the all-time record for winning percentage by a Trinity coach. He is currently coaching in Houston in the high school ranks.

As far as recruiting, I don't. Most of the teams I've coached know the mantra, "I will coach the guys that show up to practice."

How is this for coincidence. Karl passes along the league commissioner job and UNT doesn't have a league MVP in the same year...

spooky...

No conspiracy or coincidence there NYBuilt, our new league commish does an excellent job and by the way, he is a former North Texas lacrosse player

Karl,

All jokes my man. I was set up and it was too easy. I have nothing but respect for you. I feel that too often a lot is lost in transition on these boards...
Not to mention these threads are dead unless someone stirs them up.
