PNCLL Week #12 (4/16-4/22) -- Predict/Report Scores/Discuss

Postby Dr. Jason Stockton on Sat Apr 19, 2008 7:04 pm

I was at the sloppy, hailstorming PLU vs. UPS game today at Curtis HS in Tacoma. . . I think the final was something like 14-5 UPS - but I didn't stay 'til the final whistle. I'm sure Kyle will post a game report later today. Congrats to UPS on their fine season - finishing 8-1 and earning the coveted bye and a guaranteed trip to Missoula in 2 weeks.

Congrats to Montana on a well-played game today.

The Griz over the Broncos 15-11 :(

It was a 12-11 game but we could not convert on the EMO.

I hope the Montana injuries weren't too serious, it was a hard-fought game and we look forward to seeing how the Griz do in playoffs.

Any word on who these injuries were? Could be crucial come playoff time if they are missing some of their big firepower.

From Salem today, Willamette took on University of Portland (not PSU) in an informal scrimmage-thingy. UofP came out with a strong and deep bunch of guys, about 17 players I believe and most seemed to have experience. They had experienced attackmen and a goalie that looked very solid and athletic, similar to Blair from WOU.

So positive news after the loss of L&C and impending loss of WWU that we may actually have two teams in the Portland area hopping right in to replace them. Ken Ankrom, president of the UofP team, informed they are officially looking to apply for the league this coming season. I encourage any teams able to contact him and try and set up a scrimmage, either late spring or in the fall. They have a VERY classy bunch of guys and are knowledgeable of the game. To contact Ken his email is ankrom10 AT up.edu. He's a good guy and has his guys committed to coming out and being a solid competitor in the league.

And maybe if UofP and PSU join, we can get those divisions like we were supposed to have this season....

So I totally thought I put it in, and now that I didn't it's going to totally look like I meant not to. We lost 8-3 in 15 minute running quarters....BUT we only had ten players because this was sort of an impromptu last minute thing and one of those ten players was me at d-pole circa 2004 style. So the score was not representative of our ability, but it WAS representative of the fact that UofP has a squad of good guys and we can't wait to get our full squad and play them in a PNCLL sanctioned game next season.

we had 3 players suffer concussions during our game with the Broncos... all 3 will be fine for playoffs.

Thanks to BSU for coming up to Missoula for the game.

i must live under a rock or something but did i just read that we might lose WWU? is the to div 1 or lose as a program as a whole?

would be a bummer if we lose the program, traditionally a good sqaud and fun to play against, especially at their home 8) i hope someone could shed some light on this.

If I am not mistaken, if the school student population rules go into affect next year, WWU will have to move to D1. I have not heard any rumors of them dropping out of the league, they just may have to move up.

Yes I was referring to the enrollment size rule. Have not heard if that was officially put into place, but at the AGM it sounded like the MCLA was actively debating putting the rule in place for 2009. WWU has a little over 11,000 students enrolled, the next closest is CWU at around 8,000. No one over 5,000 after those two if I recall correctly, with WOU and SOU being around 4,500 each.

If WWU and L&C no longer play in PNCLL D2 we will have a 100% reduction in crappy turf and also a 100% decrease in pointless-rug-burns.

I truly doubt that we will lose WWU to D1 unless they choose to go. I was at the MCLA BOD meeting in Philly and the BOD did not seem interested in making a National rule change. They seemed much more inclined to let Leagues handle it on their own and stick w/ the D1 football criteria.

Great game in Ashland today, truly a battle. SOU won the 1st and 3rd periods leading 10-9 but then Whitman controlled the 4th putting in 2 EMO goals and 2 more to win 13-10. Very proud of how hard our team played. We are young but improving.
