Since there are a number of interesting divisional and OOC matchups this week, I went ahead and did a preview of the upcoming week in the WCLL.

And it even got posted before the LMU vs Florida game began (by about 1 minute).
If people are interested, the Week Ahead in the WCLL could become a regular feature. Your feedback is welcome.

UCSB 7
Northeastern 4
Final
The game was not close for a second. UCSB was up 5-0 at the half. NU looked like they hadn't been on a lacrosse field all year, and I guess that is their excuse. I talked to some of their players before the game. They said they have been practicing indoors in a space about the size of half a basketball court. Kind of sucks. Northeastern put in the last three goals of the game. I think two came in the last two minutes. The one thing that bothered me about NU was that they wouldn't take high percentage shots. Every time they had a good look, they tried some pretty, low-to-high shot. If they just shot overhand or bounced it, the shots might have gone in. They have lost a lot of talent from last year. They definitely need to drop in the rankings...a lot. Looks like beating BC will be their only chance at Nationals.

I wasn't there but,
I wouldn't say losing 7-4 on UCSB's home turf was a blow out. Most teams would be happy to keep them to seven goals. If nothing else sounds like the Northeastern D was working.
again losing by 3 to UCSB on their home turf and holding them to 7 goals dosen't necessarily mean a huge drop in the polls, unless UCSB is dropping with them.
Not trying to be a Northeastern fan because I'll always defend the
WCLL, but lets not make this something it is not RB just because your such a big UCSB fan.

Regardless of keeping it close with SB, they lost to Stanford who has been up and down, but now that loss to LMU doesn't look as bad after their win tonight vs UF. Either way, I don't think Stanford or LMU are Top 10 material right now and Northeastern lost to Stanford. They need to drop and in my eyes I would have them at about 17-21, with Stanford and LMU probably in the same realm.

UCSB has never been a high scoring team and never will be. They are all about ball control. It's boring, but it wins games. Would you say 7-1 was a blow out? Because that is what the score was until the last two or three minutes.

I have never come out here to bash a team because I have something against them. I respect Northeastern and never doubted them last season after their win in Arizona. I was one of the first people to start spreading the word that they were for real. My point is that they are not even close to the team they were last season, and that their ranking, which is based solely on last season, should drop...a lot. Not out of the top 25, but I don't think they can make it as an at-large team.
I'm here to state a point based on my observations during a game. I am a very critical person and more likely to point out a team's weaknesses than their strengths. While I am a UCSB fan, I feel like I give fair analysis of games. I usually speak about why a team lost and not why a team won a game. And once again, UCSB has never been a high scoring team and has never run up the score on teams. Most of their games, whether against a good team, a mediocre team, or a bad team are close.

LMU's Stats
Anybody got a report on the LMU vs Florida game? It would be nice to have some details on the comeback, beyond just the score of the game.
Also, come on LMU, update the stats on the WCLL webpage already. I'm pretty sure that there are computers and internet connections in the southeast. It's your biggest win in years. We have short attention spans. Take advantage of your opportunity or we're going to lose interest really quick.

LMU - Florida recap
LMU's best win of the year so far went down like this:
After scoring the first goal of the game, LMU allowed Florida several easy goals and as the game progressed, Florida's high powered offense pulled the Gators ahead. By the start of the 4th quarter the score was 10-5 in favor of the home team Gators. Despite their deficit, LMU has been a 4th quarter team all year (see comeback win against Stanford) and scored 3 goals in quick succession, bringing the score to 10-8. With 7 minutes to go Florida got one back, all but ending the game. However LMU refused to give up and scored two goals in the final 3 minutes. With 0:35 left Florida's offense finally got a possession but fell prey to LMU's pressure defense which caused a turnover that led to an LMU goal with under 10 seconds to play. End of regulation.
The overtime periods were back and forth with neither team seemingly able to end the game. Both teams took numerous shots and the goalie play for both teams stepped up. In the final minute of the 2nd OT, LMU finally won with a 15 yard shot that found the net. Final score LMU 12 Florida 11, 2OT.

I remember that game. That was back when Scott Demonte was coach. A slightly different style of lacrosse.

Don't you remember every game you went 2 & 1 in?

Chapman over Northeastern something like 15-8, but reports are that it wasn't even that close.

I heard the same thing. 15-5 after 3 quarters Looks like Chapmans D turned a few over late. Marcus Wooden had another big night. He is the real deal. Player of the week at least. Lets see how they fare with back to back games next week with Florida and Ithica. Next poll should be interesting.
