No love lost, Sonny. Just a friendly debate. I tend to round house kick most things that come in my way, so no one should take offense to it.

The season has just begun, and I am excited to see what some of these "less consistent" teams can do. I have a feeling that some of the power house teams are going to get their candy taken from the lesser know teams. I smell some upsets this year, and it kind of smells like lilac. Not sure why exactly.

I tend to agree that chapman's win over SCU by only 4 may hurt them in the polls. Im not sure why Chapman has trouble puting less talented teams away. My guess is that it is because they are so young.

That being said, i have them around 14th in the next poll. The overtime loss to #3 UCSB, and wins over #17 Chico, and #12 Utah should boost them up in the polls. Im not too concerned about their rankings at this point in the season. After all, alot of teams have not even played a game yet. There is plenty of time for them to move up in the polls. If Chapman continues to win, they will continue to move up in the polls.

I anticipate some highs and lows for Chapmans team this year. They will surely have some growing pains. Therfore a 4 goal win over SCU is to be expected. As the team matours, they will learn to put less talented teams away. I expect them to only get better as the team gels throughout the season.

No, he does have one more year of eligibility and he's planning on playing. These Gauchos are certainly playing impressive ball and gritting it out when they need to. This is a great start to the season

I post because of a less than impressive game report and a little lack of respect.

It should be noted the Santa Clara had their starting goalie healthy for one game this weekend...Chapman. He was coughing up blood for the most of the weekend, did not play against UCSD and was sub'd in the SDSU game with illness. Regardles, congrats to UCSD and SDSU this weekend. I hope to see UCSD in the top 5 by season end.

I will contradict the 'poor shot selection' game report and rather say nice job Freshman Phil Donnici in cage with 22+ saves. Hustle and heart can play a part in games especially when Chapman had trouble with Santa Clara's ride and Chapman struggled with 3 red jerseys on the ground ball to one white. The drill is called man ball for Tuesday's practice, boys.

Chapman is young? Yeah, so is Santa Clara with the majority of Santa Clara's roster being frosh and soph...who finally got their 'you know what together' by Monday's game.

On another note, 4th quarter, Santa Clara hit multiple pipes and missed an open cage on a cross crease feed in the closing minutes. Chapman didn't play down, they got out hustled, it is as simple as that. If anything, Chapman could have very well lost that game or it could have won it by just one or two but who cares at this point.

Since you mentioned it, I guess I will too. If you remember, Chapman hit four our more pipes in that fourth quarter as well, and a number of point blank missed opportunities through out the game. And yes, THEY DID PLAY DOWN and were missing a number of starters. Both teams are young, yes, but Santa Clara's freshmen are not at the same level as Chapman's, who boasts multiple high school All Americans. If Chapman played like they did in their one point loss to SB, there would not be much talk here. You say it could have been a Chapman loss or a two point game, but if they played like the SB game, it could have also been a 15 or 20 point game. I am not downing Santa Clara's blue color effort, because they certainly came out firing when Chapman came out flat. I wish Santa Clara the best of luck this season, and good work on a hard fought game. When it comes down to a team comparison, I think most can agree that Chapman just had a bad day.

I had a chance to see the Chapman v. Santa Clara game and Chapman played horrible but their talent exceeds their flaws still having a commanding win over Santa who?

Wow, that is big time for Poly, nice win for the WCLL and congrats to them. Tough trip for BYU suffing two losses early.

Ok- I never got around to doing my writeup- I think I just lost my inspiration after it all got deleted and didn't want to write four more pages worth of material.

Just as a synopsis, I figured I would briefly hit upon the players whose individual performance impressed me.

The Player of the Tournament in my eyes- bear with me on this-

UC Davis #27- Originally an attackman last year, and offensive player of the year for his team (according to his father whom I spoke to on the sidelines). This year he played in the cage, and quite frankly did a phenomenal job. USLMDIA.org has his stats list as something like 87%, and I will personally attest to the fact that those numbers are not "every shot is a save" numbers. I was taking notes during the game, and his work in the cage is what gave Davis their victory against Texas State. Excellent netminding.

Also making notable contributions (and keep in mind this might not be everyone, since I was roaming a good portion of the time):

Utah - #17 Defenseman- Had his attackman's number everytime I saw him isolate him. From when I was watching the Chico game, he had at least four takeaways (solo) where he not only took the ball, but scooped it and cleared it. Overall, Utah's defense was impressive, but I thought #17 stood out from what I watched.

UC Davis #11- He was the teams face-off specialist. He also won almost every face off that I saw him take. I overheard the face-off specialist from Texas State say "he had the fastest hands I have ever seen."

Chico #11- I believe he was an attackmen, but either way, he was either a direct contributor or the actual scorer to every chico score that I saw. He was fast and had a good quick-stick goal that impressed pretty much everyone that was watching.

Claremont #8- I only got to see about 5 minutes of this game, but could tell that #8 was a contributor. In the five minutes I watched, I saw him net two and assist for one- maybe I was lucky when I was watching, but he just seemed to be creating offense when he got the ball.


I'm leaving out people, I know I am. These were just the numbers that were fresh in my mind. Either way- most impressed with Davis' keeper, thought maybe he could use some recognition.
