The PNCLL at the 2008 MCLA National Championships in Dallas

Postby WOULAX21 on Thu May 15, 2008 9:32 pm

There are 9 people on the team with under 10 points on the season, 6 of them have zero. Would have been nice to mix them in at attack & midfield to get them chances by driving & dumping throughout the 4th.

How many of these traveled to Dallas, TX and how many are middies or attack?

If they both traveled and are middies, make sure they weren't already in....

Were they in? You're on the sideline!!! If we're lucky, we'll see a highlight video from the game that will include errant behind the back shots & the final goal. It's crap, we don't have to tip toe around it, it's crap. He, & you, should be embarrassed, you shouldn't be condoning it. I'm glad you made it to Dallas, you're an excellent team with a ton of heart & some genuinely great people. I'm shocked that after seeing 3 WOU games, I saw no words of discouragement for this type of thing... Not even after the PNCLL Championship when the team was booing & calling bullsh*t on the awards while players accepted them. While this is about lacrosse, you have players that have learned zero about sportsmanship, while they had excellent opportunities to do so and grow as men. The best players in this conference don't have to tell you how good they are, we already know.

No more tip toeing, it's time to call a spade a spade. I wish Hayden would have continued the year, it looks like he could have been the League MVP after the performance he put on against WWU on opening weekend. & I'm very proud of Josh B. after the program that he's helped spearhead from the start to Dallas in 4 years. Congrats on the great season for WOU, you worked hard to get it done in such a short time. Good luck in the future.

booing at the awards? I was not able to stay for the ceremony, but if that actually went down then it kinda goes against what the anonymous WOU_LAX14 (I assume it's Anthony Harmon, from the roster) said:

"Since the first day I came out for the team the leaders have preached nothing but class. We realize that we represent our school and the PNCLL and wouldn't do anything to ruin the current reputation of either. "

Booing at someone else's award is SOMETHING other than class. Seems to me like this is a top-down problem.

No comments posted in this thread reflect the current SOU teams thoughts about WOU Lacrosse. We have no room to talk about class when we have had the amount of un-sportsman-like penalities that we have had over the last few seasons (which I think have cost me about 10 years off of my life span). As Kyle said, 1 or 2 people on a team can lead to a generalized view of that team.
WOU won the league b/c they were obviously the most dedicated team both on and off the field this year.
Thanks to all of the teams in the PNCLL for making this League what it is! Already looking forward to next year!

Agreed, my post was merely reflecting the general consensus from myself and my fellow alumni who played at SOU in the past, and are not the opinions of the current SOU team. So if anyone is upset about it, direct your criticism towards me not the current SOU team. That is why my avatar is neutral because it is my opinion, and I don't want my comments to appear to be tied to the SOU program.

I think there is a fine line between taunting and celebrating your team. Although a fan of WOU, I am able to recognize that sometimes their celebrating straddles the line. I, of course, was never on the field to hear comments directed at the other team but it seems to me that nothing was ever targeted at opponents outside of isolated shoving matches. I know for a fact that several of the WOU guys, while on the field have innocent chats with their counterparts, which can take the edge off of competition. I know some celebrate by waving to their family, and some don't celebrate at all just to avoid conversations like this.

On the opposite side of the coin, there are some guys that are ready to run everyone into the ground and fight and argue for every possession and every official's call. As it was said earlier, its easy for the actions of a few to reflect on the many and thats when it is up to the coaching staff and rest of the team to corral them.

If a team is losing by a lot, they are already frustrated and if the team opposite them is enjoying themselves it makes it that much harder. I think it is important to congratulate your team as long as nothing intimidating or insulting is aimed at the other team, which I haven't yet seen from WOU. Everybody enjoys winning and it can be hard to not celebrate.

But I do think trying 4 behind the back shots just because you can take advantage of the defense is too showy. I think booing people's awards is not classy either.

Kyle, I'm very confused as to how I ended up in this conversation. I know my comment on the other thread was pretty classless and I feel badly about how I worded it, but I cant tell if you're being serious or sarcastic. If serious, don't worry, odds are you'll all get one more shot at hayden next year.

Nyc, I'm serious the through that post. I heard nothing but great things about your improvement & play in that game. It sounded as though you were unstoppable & a clear front runner for the award.

Seniors on SFU?

Postby bhsvideodad on Sun May 18, 2008 10:20 am

Tim Whitehead wrote:Congrats to both SFU and WOU on good showings at the tournament and on great seasons in general. I'm really looking forward to seeing what SFU can do next year. With no seniors on the team this year, and the freshmen I'm assuming Brent and Jeff are bringing in next year, I think this is a team that can definitely compete for the title next year. Great season, guys, and build on this for next year.

After the earlier posts, I thought SFU didn't need seniors. The Michigan coach attributed their improvement this year to the strong senior class. So this means 2010 could be big for SFU if they can keep all those sophomores together.

Now its wait till next year.

One more congratulation goes out to Russell Thomas, who was the only PNCLL representative on the MCLA All-Tournament team. He obviously continued to display the talents we all witnessed at the PNCLL tourney down in Texas.

Nice Job Russell!!

Russell Thomas scored quite possibly the best goal of the tournament against Florida State on a sick series of dodges and a behind-the-back shot.

Best play of the tournament however has got to be Michigan's flip/hidden ball play on the EMO against Georgia that allowed them score the goal that would be the game winner and take the lead 9-8.

Congrats to the PNCLL players that made the All-America lists too, the conference was well represented again!

I know they were in. I am asking you who has seemingly been more than willing to make your opinion known when you have no first-hand knowledge as to what actually happened. After reviewing the film, the defender pushed out on our attack man far past the box line & as the attack man ran the ball into the box, the defensive player was beat with the attack man had a 1 on 1 with the keeper. That is why there was another goal at the end of the game. As to the behind the back shots, anyone who was there could have heard us yelling at him for wasting possessions every time he took that look all week. And he did take that look many times over the week in case everyone didn't know. Before putting us on trial, make sure you know what happened all the way.

I'm not on here to defend BS moves by my players, & trust me the behind the backs were. I'm just asking you not to throw out those judgments unless you know whether or not he was chastised for taken those shots.

GVSU lax would like to thank WOU for their support in the championship game. I think they were the loudest group in the stadium and we appreciated it. Some of the guys got to talk to a few of their players and they all seemed to get a long. Lacrosse is universal. Thanks again.

We had an awesome time watching you guys play. Great job on making it to the final game. Did #21 enjoy his birthday song? We were sitting by his sister and she asked us to sing it for him. :D
