Georgia High School Playoffs Discussion

All first round games are scheduled for tonight all over Atlanta. With temps expected to hit 90, it should be pretty warm:
Pace at Harrison 5:30
Alpharetta at Lovett 7:30
Pope at Northview 7:30
Roswell at St. Pius 7:00
Kell at Westminster 5:30
Darlington at MacIntosh 5:30
HIES at Lassiter 7:00
Decatur at Milton 7:00

LINK to bracket:

The right side of the bracket is absolutely loaded. If no upsets tonight, Saturday's quarterfinals on that side of the bracket would set up two amazing games - Harrison at Lovett and Lassiter at Milton. (Which could set up Lassiter/Lovett in the semis.. Ouch!)

One thing is for certain, we won't have Lassiter and Lovett in the final game for the 4th year in row.

The HS brackets are all messed up. They needed to space out Lassiter, Lovett, Milton and Harrison.

IMHO the winner of Lassiter/Milton will win it all. Milton is such a good team now, but it's not the Milton players that lose their games..

The brackets rotate each year. GHSA does that and its consistant with all GHSA sports.
Does it means its the way to do it, but its the system in place.

Si. This year definitely is good for teams on the other side of the bracket, no doubt.

Yea ... the "right" side of the bracket is definitely the "heavier" side ....

From a personal viewpoint, there's no team on the other side of the bracket that can hang with Westminster .... they're very strong defensively and have shut down good offenses all year long. I know they have to actually play the games, but I don't see Westminster having a tough game until they hit the final ....

The two quarterfinals on the "right" will be really hot games (considering that the expected teams DO win) .... I just hope they space them out a little so that I have time to get from one to the other ....

The first Harrison/Lovett game this season was one of the best games I saw all season .... Harrison came from behind in the 4th to tie the game up and send it into an overtime period. The overtime period went back and forth the entire period - Lovett literally got one past the line at the buzzer to win the game .... it was one of those "Wow!" games ....

Lassiter beat Milton early on in the season - I think Milton has gotten stronger since that early meeting. The rematch would be a toss-up ... Milton would be playing at home this time, though. And I'm sure they'd like to avenge the semi-final loss they suffered at home last year against Lassiter.

I will also add here that it is the same situation with the girls' playoffs ... the same programs involved on the right side - Milton, Lassiter, Lovett, Harrison all expected to advance to the semis .... and on the other side - Westminster's ladies being head and shoulders above the rest of the programs on that side of the ladies' bracket.

Looks like the other two quarterfinals are tonight:
Westminster at Pius is at 6pm and I think Lovett is at Harrison at 7pm.

Good luck to everyone. All 4 games should be very competitive.

Ill pick Lovett, McIntosh, Westminster and ugh..Lassiter. Even though I want Milton to win...I think Lassiter will take it.

Lassiter had a field day driving from X last time...that's most likely not gonna change this time around either.

wow..... some great games tonight:
Westminster beat St. Pius in triple OT, 7 - 6
Harrison beat Lovett in single OT by one
Lassiter beat Milton (@ Milton), 9 - 8.

Heard that Westminster was down by four goals to rally back and win it in 3 OT's. Lassiter had a 3-goal lead early and a 4-goal lead (late 3rd quarter), only to see Milton storm back and make it a game again late.

Three one goal games in the quarters. Whew.

Northview is down at Peachtree City to take on McIntosh tomorrow night at 7pm in the final quarterfinal. This was a one goal game in the regular season. Should be another good one. Winner plays Westminster in one semifinal next week while Harrison plays Lassiter.

i was at the Milton/lassiter game and it was a really fun game to watch. There wasn't an empty seat in the stadium making the atmosphere awesome! Both student sections were on their feet the whole game. The difference in the game was Lassiter finishing off their fastbreak opportunities and Milton had a ton of unforced errors which hurt them.

That was my first HS game in a few years and I was really surprised to see how high the level of lacrosse was for a quaterfinal game.

IMHO those are the 2 best teams in the State from what Ive seen, it was just unfortunate they had to meet in the quarters. Not all games/teams are as good here as Milton and Lassiter.
