What's going on in Provo? A loss to Cal Poly doesn't sound good.

I am also curious, as it seemed BYU had UCSB bagged, although I have not seen a game...

After seeing the scores from these first few games I was a little nervous but after thinking it through...I'm not all that nervous. Let's look at what happened here:

at UCSB: a huge lead going into the 4th against a team with a long home winning streak and back-to-back national titles. UCSB was not going to quit and the Cougars young attack line wasn't able to control the ball at the offensive end as I'm sure Coach Lamb would have liked. Take the pride of the Gauchos combined with the relative inexperience at the offensive end and we get the result of an overtime loss.

at Cal Poly: The next afternoon from the UCSB game, there was going to be a let down after letting a game they should have won at UCSB get away from them. That being said, the Cougars did not play well and gave a game away to a team they should have beaten.

at Whittier: Here's a game against a Div.III team that doesn't really even count against their record but is still a great measuring stick. For the Cougars they were doing well for a half but not the whole. Halftime adjust ments by the Whittier staff proved to be to much for the Cougars to overcome. Once again the lack of rhythm at the offensive end turned into a lot of shot opportunities for the Poets.

vs. Michigan: The thought of coming home 0-4 for the trip is not good. The Cougars hung tough throughout and a few personnel changes proved to pay off at the offensive end of things. That combined with the 3 min. unreleasable at the start of the 4th gave the Cougars new life. A very hard fought win versus a very capable opponent.

To sum it all up: BYU took it to UCSB and had them on the ropes but didn't close the deal. That loss carried over to the next game which is something that, as a team, you just can't let happen. Cal Poly pulls the upset, a game the Cougars will learn a valuable lesson from in that you can't overlook anyone or dwell on a previous game. Whittier was to much for BYU this time around. The offense for the Cougars just isn't there yet.
A solid, hard fought win over a very good Michigan team puts a positive spin at the end of a long and tough road trip. What do we learn about the Cougars? Well they need some consistency at the offensive end. The inexperience showed and the more they play together, the more that problem will get resolved. The defense will have to be the anchor until the offense catches up. One thing is for sure though, the Cougars will not give up and can play with anyone.

Good luck this week against Arizona. Let's sweep this 3 game homestand and start it off right with a big win on national TV against AZ!

Go Cougars!

Cougartown

First of all it's early in the regular season so let's not start to worry about the USS Cougar and whether or not it's sinking. The real season for the Cougs is the post season, and while they have gotten off to a rocky start they will be fine. They lost a lot last year when Pete and Mark graduated and it's gonna take some time for the new people to assume their roles. Besides do we honestly believe that they won't make the National Playoffs? You are crazey if you do.

So everybody take a collective deep breath and relax. Keep cheering on your team, it will come together and they will be fine.

On a side note, why the change to go with one goalie? Did Chris earn the right to play the whole game or did Makechnie loose the rights to the 2nd half? Hmmm?

This was discussed over the summer and I think if I recall correctly he and Jason just didn't see eye to eye on some on-field things and after the trip to Japan with USA West they weren't really all that happy with each other so they decided to part ways. I have no idea why he ended up at UVSC but that's where he landed.

My own personal opinion is that he could not uphold the standards of BYU in terms of the honor code and was not willing to make an effort to do so. From my own observation, the team is better off to not have such a distracting and negative influence. Best of luck to him at UVSC.

In terms of what?

Also, Coach Lamb mentioned on his itunes show that Cameron Archibald is hurt. What happened? How long will he be out?

You can read the HC here: http://honorcode.byu.edu/

And i am not sure on Cameron. He is most likely out for the whole year.
