Only 8? They beat Pepperdine by 12, and Pepperdine is nationally ranked. I'm guessing closer to 14.

I dont think your even close to right about this score.... I know USC has struggled in the past but they have a solid squad this year that should be competitive, possibly surprising some of the best that the WCLL has to offer

USC may have a good squad this year, but look at what happened with Cal on Sunday. They played UCSB in a alright game, some thought it was a good start to their season, but then they go get dismantled by Poly 18-0. I think that the prediction of 10 to 15 is right on the money.

I would have to say it's going to be tough to tell. There's such a variable in the mix about how good Cal is. The way I see it, I think that Cal's offensive woes are not over. They had a very low scoring team last year, and it looks like it may have carried over into this year.

What this obviously translates into is that if their offense is not potent, it means a great deal of possession time for opposing teams, for instance the case of Cal Poly's game. A score of 18-0 means that Cal's offense simply didn't have the ball. I think that Cal Poly may not be an amazing team (not to say that they aren't, just not a team that puts other teams at 18-0 all season) but the fact that they had possession the whole game probably didn't hurt them.

I think their score will be lower in the upcoming game, since I expect that USC will have a greater proportion of possession than Cal did in their game. I'll stick with my overwhelming blanket statement that at this point of the season there are some giant questionmarks, since teams haven't had a chance to showcase their abilities, but using last years results combined with round-the-water-cooler talk, I think that's the skinny on what's going on so far with these teams, and likely the explanation behind the scores so far. I still think Cal Poly will win, as clearly they're talented... I just would have to agree that it won't be by 15 goals... hopefully mouth will stay foot free.

Through the grapevine... I hear final score for the UCSD v. Hartwick (DIII) was 9-12 Hartwick. I also hear it was a sloppy game for both sides.

Can anyone elaborate?

Heard that McCall had 6 goals against Hartwick. Major reason that Hartwick won was because they had depth...approximately 40-45 players compared to 20-25 players for UCSD. Hartwick was up by 4 early, but UCSD closed the gap and was even with Hartwick the rest of the game.

Got the quick info from Aaron Meyers, Cal Poly's Asst. Coach, who said it was a good game and hard fought on both ends. USC's defense (2 freshmen starting) played hard with good pressure, but Poly's explosive offense was just too much. Aaron said that SC has some shooters and rotated a lot of players through, so there is more depth this year. He also said both goalies were having a difficult time seeing shots under the lights which may have contributed to a couple goals on both ends. Cal Poly is legit this year and SC is moving in the right direction.
