Academic Honors

What qualifies someone for an Academic All American? Is it purely academic. And do they have all conference honors also. Just curious as to what is involved in that process

The MCLA recognizes individual playing and academic excellence with Academic All America awards - Candidates must appear on their respective Conference’s First or Second all Conference Team and posses a cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) for the most recently completed term of study.

You don't automatically get Academic AA if you qualify. You or your coach must send in a transcript to the league.

Last season the GRLC started an Academic All-Conference team. The only requirement was a 3.2 cumulative GPA as of the last completed semester. Again, there was a deadline for submitting certified copies of your transcript. It is unfortunate that more teams did not submit transcripts last year.

I'd have to say that most people had no knowledge of this, which is why there weren't more submitted.

It is important that coaches take responsibility for passing on information rather than post on here that they were not informed.

Subject: Academic Awards

Guys,

I wanted to get an early start on our Academic All-conference Awards
while
we are putting together the ballots for our All-Conference Teams. I
appologize for last years mix-up with regard to this process. It was
entirely my fault. Because of that, I am trying to streamline the
process.
Here it is.

For Academic All-Conference a player needs to be/have the following:

- be an active eligible (confirmed) player at their respective program
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) as of their
last
completed semester/quarter (for most of you that would be the Fall of
2006)

That's it. Pretty simple huh. The difficult part is the verification
process. This is what screwed me up last year so once again I will
streamline this process. For verification I need the following and
nothing
but the following:

- a hard copy of your official transcript. It must be official, stamped
by
the school, and it must be a physical copy. No emailed transcripts. I
need
to receive these no later than Thursday the 26th of April at the
following
address:

15057 Millspring Drive
Montclair, VA 22025

Or you can also deliver them to me at the GRLC Tournament no later than
Saturday the 28th of April. The teams will be announced on Championship
Day,
Sunday, April 29th.

The rules are very simple. LATE AND/OR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT
BE
ACCEPTED PERIOD. Thanks for your help.
