From MENASHA, WISCONSIN

Parks and Recreation Director Brian Tungate says Menasha may collaborate with Appleton and the Town of Menasha this spring on a lacrosse program.

Tungate said discussions emerged about “a three-way pilot program” for lacrosse while reciprocity agreements were being considered for renewal.

“To me that’s kind of the next logical step that we take,” Tungate said. “Reciprocity has been around for several years but we’ve never really taken that next step really seriously in some joint programming effort.”

Registrations from each community will be pooled and given to a single instructor who will organize lacrosse games at a centrally located park starting in April and ending in early June. Details still are being worked out, Tungate said.

“There’s more of these (club lacrosse) teams popping up,” Tungate said. “Lacrosse could be in the next decade what soccer was in the ’80s — just starting to take off. It’s a big sport out East and a big sport in Chicago. It’s really all over but in the last five to six years it’s come to the Fox Valley.”
