MARS HILL, NC - Sean Woods has been named as Mars Hill College's new head men's lacrosse coach, MHC Athletic Director David Riggins announced today. Woods becomes the fifth coach in the program's history.
Woods comes to MHC from Washington College in Chestertown, MD where he served as the top assistant since the fall of 2003. At Washington, Woods was the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and scouting coordinator. Last season the Shoremen finished with a 14-5 overall record, had a 6-2 record in the Centennial Conference that placed them second in the league and made it to the NCAA quarter-finals.
Prior to his stint at Washington, Woods was a assistant coach at Brown University in Providence, RI. At Brown he was the attack and goal keeper coach as well as assisting with their special teams.
Woods was a four-year letterman for Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY at attack and midfield. He won the team's Coaches Award his senior year for his leadership and dedication to the program.
"We are pleased to add Sean to the Mars Hill family. He comes to us from programs which have been extremely successful so he fully understands what it takes to have a quality lacrosse program", stated Riggins.
Woods stated, "I am excited at the opportunity Mr. Riggins and Dr. Lunsford have given me here at Mars Hill College and I look forward to the challenges of the upcoming season."
