Ducks Move Up to 4-Spot
Finish Northwest Shootout 4-0

After sweeping their Northwest Shootout last week, the Oregon Ducks
have moved up to the #4 spot in the National rankings.

Here’s a quick recap of last week’s games:

March 10th’s game against the University of Missouri kicked off the
successful home stand for the Ducks. The Ducks and the Tigers battled
hard on a field covered with hail, and the Ducks prevailed with a 15-9
victory. #25 Julian Coffman netted 5 goals and 1 assist, while #14
Trevor Tesar had 2 goals and 3 assists in the game. Tesar came up big
in all four games. Mizzou’s goalie, Doug Mayer, had an exceptional
game with 21 saves.

The next day Oregon took control early and beat a persistent Texas
Longhorns team 15-11. Attackmen Chris Nelson (#10 Sr.) and Ryan
Warren (#20, Jr.) both scored 2 goals and had 2 dimes a piece. Goalie
Nate Cordova had a great week as well, finishing this game with 13
saves.

After two days off, the Ducks went back at it against a tough #11
(previously #18) Minnesota-Duluth squad. The first quarter began with
an Oregon goal and Duluth quickly answering right back. Junior
Midfielder Scott Miller (#27) took control of the face-offs and the
defensive unit stepped up to put the Ducks in the lead 8 to 2 at half.
The game ended 13-4 with Oregon on top. Coffman had another 5 goals, Nelson had 3 and 1 assist, and “Nasty” Nate Cordova had 10 saves.

Thursday, March 16th, marked the end of the Ducks’ Northwest
Shootout and another victory, this time over Chico State. Both teams
played relatively flat after having played multiple games earlier in
the week. But in a match-up that has always been known to get heated,
the Ducks controlled the momentum all the way through. Ryan Warren
finished with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Tesar powered 2 more into the
net as well. As one teammate said, Cordova “played lights out in
cage” with 13 saves. The Ducks won 9-3.

The Ducks enjoyed hosting all four teams in addition to Gonzaga
University, University of Nevada, and Oregon State for their first
Northwest Shootout and would like to wish all the teams the best of
luck in the rest of their seasons. A special thanks goes out to
Missouri, Texas, and Minnesota-Duluth for making the long trip West
for their spring breaks.

Ducks Prepare for Spring Break in CA

Now ranked #4 in the nation, the Ducks are preparing to live up to the
hype. Next week, the Ducks will play the biggest and most important
games on their regular season schedule. Between Monday, March 27th,
and Saturday, April 1st, the Ducks will go up against Dominican
University (NCAA Division 3), Notre Dame de Namur (NCAA Division 2),
Sonoma State, and Cal Poly SLO. NDNU is coming off a 12-8 win over #1
Colorado State. Sonoma State is consistently at the top of the USLIA
national rankings and currently posted at #2. Cal Poly is #13 and
coming off an overtime loss to Minnesota-Duluth.

According to Coach Joe Kerwin, "This is the type of week we look
forward to on the schedule. All of the lifting, running, and
practices are for these games." The Ducks are hard at work with all
focus on their games next week.

Youth and HS Clinics in Roseburg THIS WEEKEND!

The Ducks Lacrosse Team will be hosting their last Winter Clinic in
Roseburg, OR this Saturday, March 25th. The clinic will be staffed by
the entire UO team, allowing plenty of one on one instruction. This
is a great chance for High School and Youth players to begin their
season with college level instruction and insight from some the
West’s most talented individuals. The clinic will go from 9AM to
1PM for both Youth and HS players, and will be followed by an Oregon
Ducks inter-squad scrimmage at 2PM. The Ducks’ series of Winter
Clinics continue the team’s commitment to the growth of lacrosse in
the Northwest. They also double as fundraisers for the program.
More information and registration materials can be found on the
team’s website, www.uoregon.edu/~lacrosse.
