Ben and Danny helped usher in professional Lacrosse to Portland Ore. in an intrasquad game played before 10,509 fans at the Rose Garden on Dec. 1, 2005. Both players showcased their talents in a manner which should make all PNCLL ers proud. Both players received a large amount of P.T. and they were the crowd favorites. Ben initiated many of the plays and was usually found setting many of the picks and screens that are more prevalent in Box Lax. Danny must have enticed every female he ever met into coming to the game. They cheered every time he touched the ball and pounded the Plexiglas barriers that surrounded the field. The announcer picked up on this enthusiasm and helped "goad" on Danny's play. Danny responded to this energy by scoring two goals. Perhaps the most impressive aspect to all club Lax players is to recognize that both men had the skills and talent to play and compete at the professional level.

Ben may have become accustomed to playing to crowds in excess of 10,000 while playing in Walla Walla, but I understand that many of the more established professionals were ecstatic with the large turnout and the type of energy and excitement that this crowd developed.

To understand that a Lacrosse game could draw 10,500 fans in the Northwest should be enticing to all college programs. I believe that the interest for Lacrosse is here, and with excellent promotion the crowds at the college level could be greatly increased.

I was disappointed to see that neither Danny Ernst nor Ben Sadler made the opening day roster for Portland, which is carrying only two Americans (Ryan Powell is one) on a team otherwise entirely comprised of Canadians.

On the bright side, however, two former SFU Clansmen DID make the team -- Peter Morgan and Andrew "Dick" Martin.

Andrew Martin was released on Dec. 21 and has not been signed by anyone as of yet.

Andrew Martin was picked up by the Stealth this week and played Friday night for them against Portland. Ironically the Stealth released Andrew's brother Spencer to sign him. I hope the call didn't actually go like this.

Stealth: "Hello, is Spence there?"
Spence: "This is Spencer."
Stealth: "Uh, yeah. Hi. We're going to have to release you."
Spence: "Geez, that sucks."
Stealth: "Yes, we know. Ummmmm is your brother home?"
Spence: "Shoot." (in the background "Andrew, it's for you.")

Where did the Martin's play? Where did Curtis Hodgson play? How long ago were they playing in college?

Hodgson played for SFU in 2000-2002 then went to play in the NLL missing his senior year, Andrew Martin played for SFU around the time when they made the USLIA Championship final agianst CSU in 1999, Spencer didnt play for SFU and I am not too sure when he played.......

I have had the pleasure of watching games up here since the mid-90s. Andrew "Dick" Martin was the best player I have ever seen come out of this league, and I believe the only PNCLLer ever to make his country's national team. He was an absolutely dominant defender on a team best known (at that time, anyway) for producing great offensive players.
