First phase of new park could start this year

Work could begin this year on a regional park in northeast Guilford County with a familiar-sounding name that could help draw major soccer tournaments and cross-country meets to the Triad.
Bryan Park at Guilford County is planned for 534 acres southeast of N.C. 150 and Doggett Road. The southern end of Bryan Park at Guilford County abuts the northern end of the roughly 1,000-acre Bryan Park.
A revised master plan developed by a consultant with input from the public and some city and county employees includes two soccer/lacrosse complexes with 13 fields -- nine grass and four synthetic turf.
"Soccer is just a huge need in our area and something we'll never have enough fields for," Wilson said. "Lacrosse has grown by leaps and bounds over the last several years."
