Closer then expected. The shot was on target, just a little low (from my vantage point). Bounced off the plywood backboard.

Correct me if i'm wrong, here is my count:

2000 VT vs UT
2001 VT vs AU
2002 VT vs AU
2003 VT vs UF
2004 GT vs UF
2005 VT vs FSU

Danny has it right. VT's first title in their fifth championship game appearance. Tennessee won back to back titles in 1999 and 2000 in Chattanooga before Auburn's back to back pair of conference titles. (I'm trying to remember who Tennessee beat in 1999 to earn the SELC title. Georgia, with goalie Waldo Terrell at the helm, won in 1998 - our first year in Chattanooga.)

That's it. I knew it wasn't UGA, GT, or Emory.

If I recall correctly, Emory hasn't EVER made the final SELC Championship game. They lost in the quarterfinals in 1998 in CHattanooga.

Congrats

Postby BigOrangeGoalie on Mon Apr 25, 2005 6:04 pm

Congrats, Hokies!

Yes, it did take only six short years.

The Hokies missed St. Louis in '99 because of their independence and schedule. Tennessee and Auburn represented the conference in St. Louis that year. The Hokies joined the SELC in 2K to redeem their lost trip. Rumor had it back then the SELC was beneath them and an easy way to get a championship, hence the bid.

They went to St. Louis as planned in 2K, but not as champs of the conference. They lost a tight one to a hungier team.

I heard Gogol is a dad now...way to go, Benny!!

Hey I know this is kind of off topic but i was wondering if anyone had pics of FSU's black unis. I remember heaing people talking about them after the game with UF and kinda wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

i don't know if you could call that game in 2000 a "tight" one. it was pretty much blown right open.

Ed Carroll, parent of Northview HS boy lax player, took the shot much to the chagrin of his son who thought he'd have a better chance. Ed came back to the booth and said he "pulled it left." It was hole high about 18-24" left...a good shot.
