YEAR END ALL STAR GAME

YEAR END ALL STAR GAME

Postby gopherlax27 on Tue Mar 22, 2005 4:35 pm

For those of you who participated in last years all-star game, recall how unorganzied it was. The result was that people were notified only a week or so before the game was to happen and we only had 2 goalies (one was a girl). I think that it needs to be set up more in advance so that the people who were elected/voted in have to time to make the necessary arragnements to make the game. I think that this can be something great because it rewards those who had success during the season as well as it showcases our league to those in the community who might not know about the UMLL. What do others think about getting this thing more serious and more organized so that what happened last year isnt repeated.

PS - A Co-ed game might not be such a bad idea!

The Minnesota Lacrosse Assocation has reserved the Academy of Holy Angels field on Saturday, June 11 for the annual "Laxtravaganza"

We hope to have men's and women's college all star games as well as a girls' high school all star game. The boys will be playing their championship game that day but there is a good chance it will be played as part of the event as well.

Mark you calendars now!

Matt

all star game

I agree becuase last year was basically UofM versus Duluth. I think that the lack of heads up caused this more than anything because each team has players that are deserving of recognition.

Gentlemen:

I don't think that Eugene's post was meant as a criticism as Lars or me.
But in case there is some confusion, the "All Star game" is not an event run/initiated/organized by the UMLL. If I recall correctly last year, with little notice, Lars was asked for some names of guys that "would show up" for the event.

Thus, please don't attribute last year's event to the league, or anyone running our league. If this is something that the teams of the league want - which is fine - then let's discuss it at the league meetings, so that it can be organized properly, and run in the same professional manner as the UMLL tournament.

Confusion

Postby gopherlax27 on Mon Mar 28, 2005 12:16 am

Good point Rob. I wasnt trying to place blame with anyone but only making a suggestion about how we can improve the game. Seeing as I was not present at the winter meetings, I have no idea whether or not the game was discussed by those present. I just think that if we are going to have the game, that its better organized and that we are able to showcase lacrosse and the league to those present because thats more important than anything else.

I realize that the game was not put on by the UMLL in years past, but I believe it has the potential to be a great event.
If the college all-star game is going to take place, it needs to be organized in a professional manner for it to be taken seriously by players. I also think that the it should take place after the highschool game instead of 5 hours before it. It would benefit colleges in the UMLL if highschool kids could watch a quality college all star game and see how skilled many of the top players are. It might be a good idea if the UMLL (time permitting) collaborated with the organizers of the laxtravaganza to ensure a quality event that gains attention from minnesota lacrosse fans. I am not blaming anyone for the past events but simply giving my opinion on what it would take for a successful event in the future.

Well then Cameron/Eugene:

Would you two like to lead the oranizing effort?

If so, please pm me phone numbers where I can reach you and we can discuss parameters of such a game, and the work that needs to be done before it.

I'm down to help set up this little thing they call the Laxtravaganza. I require the assistance of other UMLL players in order to help ensure that the game goes off without a hitch and that teams are equally represented. So if anyone has any objections, please speak now or don't bitch after the game.

As current president of the Minneosta Lacrosse Association (MLA), I want to confirm Rob's statement that the past two years the "All Star" game was organized (or not...) by the MLA as part of the Laxtravaganza - our summer event with games played by high school boys and girls and college men and women.

The MLA board has tended to be more aware of high school and youth levels because that is what most board members are involved in. Thus, we just haven't started our planning soon enough to have significant involvment from college teams (men or women). In the past two years Chris, Rob and everyone at the league have done a great job of finding enough players to actually have a game which has been a great asset to the event.

In 2003, I believe the men's college game drew the largest crowd at the event.

This year I think we've started planning early enough to better involve college players.

We hope this year will be a more of an "All Star" game for college players than we've had in the past assuming you guys want that as well. The MLA has set a date and reserved the location and the UMLL is more than welcome.

Eugene, Rob, and anyone else interested, just pm me and I can put you in touch with those in the MLA working on the event.

I hope to see all of you on June 11 at Holy Angels.

Was this ever figured out? I mean we talked about it hard for one week then let it go by the way side it seems? I think you guys should start getting stuff together. Also, instead of wearing those crappy practice jersey loooking things one team should wear their schools jersey light/home and the other team should wear the dark/away.
