Everyone,
After many months of struggle to put a good WCLL alumni lax tournament together it seems that some of the teams in our league can't put together a product. So we are going to have to postpone the tournament. The bottom line is UCSB, UCSD, and Cal Poly were the only ones that could muster enough support to field a team. I don't mean to disrespect any other programs, but without the staples of the league, i.e. Sonoma Alumni, UofA Alumni and Cal Alumni (they all could only field 10 players or so), it really just wouldn't be the same.
I could go on about being either cheap, lazy, unorganized or a combination of all three, and then they will probably fire back the same at me, so let us just focus on where we can go from here.
The plan is to play the tournament either this August or next (anyone see any immediate issues with that?). Unfortunately it will not allow people to support Final Four weekend, but our hope is that this will do a few things: 1) the Men's club season is over and there are no other tournaments at that time of year to compete with, 2) I think EVERYONE will be able to field a team, because if current members of a schools team want to play, they will be able to, 3) it will give us time to find sponsors and drive the costs further down.
This is more similar to how they are doing it in other leagues, and I hope everyone agrees will make for a better showing and tournament all together. I want to thank you all for being so on top of your emails and getting back to me regarding your status.
We'll get this done eventually.
Good luck to everybody the rest of the way out and in play-offs.

Sorry to hear the tournament isn't going to happen in May.
Mike, appreciate you and Albert's efforts to get this thing off the ground. Let's hope a summer tournament will get a better response from the alumni at Cal, Sonoma, Az, etc.
As far as an August reschedule date goes, my only suggestion would be to have it at least a couple of weekends after the Lake Tahoe tourney (the last weekend in July?). There's no way us old guys could play two weekends in a row.

If you let current team players from the schools play it defeats the purpose of it being an alumni tournament. Unless you are talking about current players who will become alumni over the summer.

Ukraine, I think you let us down. Put your team together, then you can start hating on on the train. The Gaucho Alum have their things together.
