Rivalry Games?

Being a relative neophyte to the MCLA, I don't have a grasp on the big rivalry games out there. As I go through the year and look at the schedule I'd like to know what the big rivalry games are. I can guess the big ones -- the traditional ones -- like Arizona-ASU, Michigan-MSU, etc., but what about some non-traditional ones?
For example, when I was in California I attended the WCLL championship game and I was told UCSB and Sonoma State had a pretty decent rivalry going. The amount of tortillas being thrown from the stands seemed to confirm that. Also, BC and Northeastern have developed a rivalry in the PCLL being the top dogs in Boston.
I know a rivalry can be a subjective call, but what are some rivalry games I should keep an eye out for? And any background or history of the game helps. Thanks in advance. -- JAC

You are right about the ASU vs. UofA game. It is always an intense game on the field, but in past years has gotten pretty rowdy in the stands.
Every year it seems to get bigger, with larger crowds and more on the line for the teams.

I don't think one or two years of big games constitutes a rivalry (Oregon v BYU). I do agree with the other two. I think the rivalries are between teams in the same league because they usually have to play each other every year.

SJU vs St. Thomas. I would say probably #1 in Div 2. So much history, every game is close no matter what.

Was going to say the same thing. Though the games have been great the past 2-3 years, was there even a history of games between the two teams before the consolation OT game in Minnesota? I think it has a good start, but not there yet

Noma vs CSU on March 15
This is usually a pretty good game and a huge rivalry.

For the GRLC:
Illinois-Illinois State is always a good one.
I would think Lindenwood-Illinois is slowly brewing based on the past couple seasons.
Wash U-Mizzou was always a good one back when Troy and Kyle were the coaches.

I know for Charlotte there are two that I could think of with a few possibly brewing.
Our biggest rival on the field is probably Elon with Davidson being a somewhat distant second.
With Elon, we used to be a doormat(i think), but recently both teams have played really well. Last year both teams were ranked in both of the games with Charlotte winning close games both times.
Davidson is Charlotte's rival in EVERYTHING. Our games tend to get a bit heated at times. Both schools hate each other, so this comes as no surprise.
Rivalries on the rise include App State, and possibly SCAD and Emory if the series is continued.

I don't think anything compares to the GeorgiaTech/UGA rivalry off of the field. It's getting good on the field since UGA has stepped it up recently.
Even so much as wearing anything GT in the state of Georgia gets you nothing but dirty looks from kids, parents, you name it.

It has always been quite a rivalry.....couches, tortillas, mud...you name it. In the recent past, they have gotten away from meeting in the regular season. It's great that they have been able to find a date this year.....4/5/08...to renew this regular season rivalry.

There are a few rivalries that have taken on a life of their own in the GRLC. Lindenwood - Illinois has become a healthy rivlary for both teams. Every year, we wind up playing more than once; and every year, the games get closer.
Missouri vs. Kansas is a great rivalry as the schools are natural rivals in just about anything they do. In fact, they play for a traveling trophy every season, a Civil War sword!

Might not have the history, but behind CSU, it's the game I look forward to the most. I think it's headed in the same direction of BYU/CSU, especially if both teams maintain their status as top 5 teams.
