Good thing for Carthage and Tri-State. Without them, there would be no college lacrosse in the midwest...

The Loch-Down: No Butler, No Biggie
New Division III programs help fill college lacrosse void in Midwest

Butler University's abrupt cancellation of its men's lacrosse program in January was sad news. Any erosion of the game makes its fans a bit nervous, but the Bulldogs were one of the few non-Eastern-Seaboard schools sponsoring a Division I men's program, so it was particularly disheartening to see a geographic outlier expunged from the map of lacrosse.
Fortunately, for anyone interested in watching or playing lacrosse in the Midwest, it's Division III to the rescue.
Two Division III schools - Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisc., and TriState University in Angola, Ind. - have recently added both men's and women's lacrosse teams.
