The Active Network Acquires LaxPower.com

SAN DIEGO, CA – August 6, 2007 – The Active Network, Inc. (Active), a leading provider of application services technology and marketing solutions for community service and participatory sports organizations (http://www.ActiveNetwork.com), today announced the acquisition of LaxPower.com, the leading online community for high school and college lacrosse players and fans. LaxPower.com (http://www.LaxPower.com), based in West Chester, PA, receives more than 20 million page views per month during the lacrosse season and is regarded as the gold standard for national high school lacrosse rankings, results and stats, as well as news and information for everything happening in lacrosse. The purchase comes at a time when more than seven million students are participating in high school athletics each year and lacrosse is recognized as one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States, according to US Lacrosse.

"LaxPower.com has become one of the really great online sports communities through its personalized, family friendly, interactive and user supported methods, and we are thrilled to have this site join our community," said Jon Belmonte, chief operating officer, The Active Network, Inc. "We look forward to applying its gold standard rating system to other sports, increasing our advertising reach, and continuing to strengthen our position as a leading sports property on the Web."

"Today's announcement is very exciting for everyone involved in the sport of lacrosse. There is no doubt that LaxPower.com has become the number one online community for the sport of lacrosse," stated John Danowski, head coach of the Duke University men's lacrosse team. "As the definitive source for schedules, scores, ratings and rankings for both high school and college lacrosse, LaxPower.com has proven to be an invaluable resource to coaches, players and the fans."

The decision to acquire LaxPower.com, reflects Active's desire to maximize participation at all experience levels, drive the evolution of high school sports online and foster a deeper relationship between advertisers and participants. By leveraging LaxPower.com's game results system and power rating formulas, Active plans to introduce national and local rankings for a wide spectrum of team sports. During the spring of 2007, LaxPower.com provided results and rankings for over 4,700 high school teams and 1,000 collegiate teams.

Many of Active's most popular tools will be integrated into LaxPower.com, including Web sites for sports teams, video uploads, personal profiles, blogging, and online registration for lacrosse camps and leagues. The site will become part of The Active Network but will remain branded as LaxPower.com.

"Merging Active and LaxPower.com is strategically the best fit for both companies, and we are very excited to have this opportunity," stated Stephen Layne, chief executive officer, LaxPower.com. "This merger allows us to deliver next generation tools to our existing community and leverage Active's reach to draw a broader audience to the sport of lacrosse."

If that is the gold standard for rankings, the bar is set pretty low.

The 800lb Gorilla grows... They must have seen what I was doing and gotten scared and decided to make an even larger inroad into the lacrosse market. Back to the war room...

Yeah, I know, I'm not even a blip on their radar. 3,000,000 team websites? sheesh.

quality, not quantity

ialax offers individual quality... it may be the same host, but the UF and USF pages look significantly different, and its still easy to manipulate as an administrator or end user. i'm doubtful eteamz will go away from its format of hitting people with advertisements right and left and few options (if any) for making the site look professional. you can't get ialax quality at an eteamz (free) price. i think people realize this, so no worries.

I completely agree. Any time I run across an eteamz website, I immmediaely hit alt+F4.
