The rest of the story doesn't mention lacrosse, and I hate that it is mentioned in somewhat of a negative connotation in this article, but at least it is mentioned in the same article as a lot of big time sporting events.

If a tree falls in the woods and only 7,000 people are there, does it make a sound? American sports on the international level has been in somewhat of a freefall the last couple of years. Most notably, the basketball team has grabbed headlines for losing its dominance over the rest of the world, but now we have to worry about lacrosse? Did anyone outside of Duke know we were dominant in this sport?
The U.S. dropped its first international game since 1978 to the Canadians in the World Lacrosse Championship finals. This would have been a devastating blow to our athletic morale as a country had anyone cared...
