Phil Buttafuoco Named Executive Director of IMLCA
Annapolis, Md. -- Phil Buttafuoco has been named the Executive Director of the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA), Richie Meade, men's lacrosse coach at the United States Naval Academy and president of the IMLCA, has announced.
Buttafuoco, former commissioner of the ECAC, served as the administrator of the IMLCA last year in his former position.
"The IMLCA Board of Directors is extremely pleased that Phil will serve in this leadership role," said Meade. "We look forward to his outstanding vision, creativity, knowledge of the NCAA and relationships within the athletic community that will benefit the mission of the organization."
Buttafuoco, who served as the commissioner of the ECAC from 1998-2006, was responsible for the implementation of a business model that provided a foundation for the Conference to grow its officiating, championship and student-athlete honors programs. Specifically, his vision to utilize technology generated efficiencies while allowing expansion of various communication platforms with the Conference's constituencies.
Buttafuoco has been an instrumental in the growth and success of the sport of lacrosse over the last several years. He served as assistant and then senior assistant director of championships for the NCAA and administered the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships from 1990-98. He served on the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Committee from 1999-2003 and was instrumental in the passage of NCAA legislation (1999) to continue the NCAA Div. II Men's Lacrosse Championship at a time when the NCAA was considering dropping the event. Additionally, Buttafuoco served on the board of directors of the USILA from 1999-2005.
The IMLCA was created to help build the game of lacrosse, become the premier organization providing coaches development and monitor the integrity of the game. Its membership will be comprised of individual collegiate coaches. Sharing the vision of the IMLCA are its founding sponsors Harrow Sports, STX, and Warrior.
The 2006 IMLCA Clinic will be conducted at the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott Hotel December 7-10. In 2005, more than 1,000 college and high school coaches attended the clinic at the same hotel property.
