Carnegie Mellon assistant coach diagnosed with Cancer

Postby Zeuslax on Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:03 pm

CMU's assistant Coach Rich Grant was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer. This is a huge hit to our program and a struggle to overcome. He's 26, in great shape, leads a healthy life (worked out 5 days a week). He's currently involved in a 3 prong chemo regimen. We all hope for a speedy recovery. If there's a lesson to learn, it would be frequent and regular self examinations of this area of the body. It is something that can be done easily after a shower. We hope that everyone that reads this post relays this information of self-checks. When caught early it is very treatable.

Rich hopes and expects to join us at the CCLA playoffs. He'll run the substitution box, defense, and goalies. We're crossing our fingers he's there. CMU is definitely not as solid without him!

Wow this is a total shock... Rich graduated a year ahead of me at West Chester East High School. I played lax with him for 3 years at East and I think he was even on one of my little league baseball teams somewhere along the way. He was a heckuva goalie back with the Vikings and a good guy.

Please send Rich my best wishes and good luck in the playoffs to CMU.
