Rule on eligibility for season

Postby Bluevelvet on Thu Mar 23, 2006 2:50 pm

I know we have gone over this in the past but, I forgot. How many games can an MDIA player play in a season before he has used his eligibility.
My specific question is:
If a WCLL player is ineligilble under the WCLL 12/24 rule, can he play OOC games (vs. non WCLL team)? If he plays OOC games, how many until he has used his season of eligiblity for 2006. 3?

I know this happened last year with CSU (I think) that they played their "redshirts" in a Texas trip or something like that. I just remember JP coming on and saying that playing one game cost them a year of eligibility.

The rule used to allow for the first 3 games of the season. It didn't matter who the opponent was. Last year it was changed to include any game. If a player appears on the active roster (they don't even have to appear in the game), and the team plays a game, they have used a year. The active roster is handled through the uslmdia.org website and the MDIA eligiblity chairs, and each coach is responsible for keeping their team's roster current through established MDIA procedures.

1- as soon as he steps on the field, representing his school in a game, he has used his eligibility for the entire year. If he suffers season ending injury, he may be eligible for a medical hardship waiver and regain a year of eligibilty.

I have a question regarding the injury situation. I currently have our elgibility form printed and signed. I will be sending it in this weeked. We have not played any games and one of our players may have to sit the rest of the season for knee surgery. Can I simply change his staus to "Inactive" for the duration of the season on uslmdia.org or do I need to completely remove him from the roster? Thanks,

The other issue was:
If a player is ineligible under WCLL rules (12/24 rule), can he play against a non WCLL team (a team that does not have the 12/24 rule)? Or is he inelgible for all games because he is ineligible under WCLL rules and his team is in the WCLL?

No opinions on this one?
Can a a player ineligible under WCLL rules, play in OOC games against opponents who do not have the rule that made him ineligible.
eg. A WCLL player is declared ineligible for the semester because he did not have 12 credits for the semesters prior to the season (12/24 rule). CCLA does not have that rule. Can the WCLL player play against Michigan? Or, is he still ineligible because he plays in the WCLL and their rules apply to all his games.
I know it would be dumb to do it because he would burn a year of eligibility for 2 or 3 OOC games but if he were graduating and would not be back next year, he might be looking for a swan song (three games are better than none).
