CSTV College Lacrosse Broadcast Schedule for 2006

New York, NY – The nation's fastest growing sport returns to CSTV: College Sports Television this spring for the network's fourth consecutive season. CSTV will once again prominently showcase lacrosse, this year as the "King of Spring," offering elite match-ups of the top men's and women's teams, compelling features and in-depth coverage and analysis on television and online.

Among the outstanding teams on CSTV's 2006 lacrosse schedule are last year's national champion Johns Hopkins and runner-up Duke (ranked #2 and #1, respectively, in the pre-season US Lacrosse poll), #4 Maryland and #7 Navy. In addition, CSTV will make hundreds of games and special features available to lacrosse fans all season long via broadband through the CSTV.com XXL package.

CSTV's national coverage includes the Nissan Half-Time Show, a comprehensive lacrosse news program during half-time of all televised games and The #1 College Sports Show, CSTV's weekly studio show with features, interviews and other topical information. Veteran lacrosse analyst Paul Carcaterra and play-by-play personality Joe Beninati make up the CSTV broadcast team for men's games, while Sheehan Stanwick serves as the women's analyst. A 1997 graduate of Syracuse University, Carcaterra was an All-American midfielder and team captain for the Orange, while Stanwick was an All-American attacker at Georgetown, who graduated in 2001 holding career records for points, goals and assists.

"The King of Spring is back on CSTV, and we're utilizing CSTV's vast network and numerous distribution outlets to present the most comprehensive and innovative wire to wire college lacrosse programming ever," said Tim Pernetti, SVP of Programming and Talent, CSTV. CSTV's lacrosse schedule is about dedication to bringing fans the nation's top teams and most anticipated match-ups." Pernetti announced the 2006 CSTV Lacrosse schedule today at the annual US Lacrosse National Convention in Philadelphia.

In addition to televising four Navy games this season, CSTV will air a compelling original 30 minute program called Dog Days Navy Lacrosse, chronicling the Navy men's lacrosse team's unique preparation of participating in Navy Seals training. The program is slotted to air March 11, the same day Navy plays Bucknell on CSTV.

"US Lacrosse is proud that our partnership with CSTV has helped to provide the national lacrosse community with access to live lacrosse programming," said US Lacrosse Executive Director Steve Stenersen. • The second annual First 4 men's doubleheader from the University of San Diego featuring four elite teams (Loyola vs. Duke and Navy vs. Bucknell)
• A doubleheader from the popular Spring Fling women's lacrosse event in West Palm Beach, FL. (Notre Dame vs. Loyola and Colgate vs. George Washington)
• Two appearances by defending NCAA Women's Champion Northwestern
• Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Championship
• Five live NCAA Championships: Women's Division I, II, III, and Men's Division II and III

In a perfect world, wouldn't it be nice if CSTV broadcast the UCSB vs. UCSD game on 3/11 while they're at it?

Anyone with some knowledge of the subject actually know if theres any chance anything like that could actually happen in the near future?

I will be speaking with Tim Pernetti at CSTV later this week about the possibilities of televising the entire IA final (instead of just highlights) and of broadcasting one or two regular season IA games. There are some politics involved, but ultimately it comes down to money.

The IA final would make the most sense since they are already there and taping it as if the whole game was being broadcast. There would be no additional cost to them. Seems like they should do this given the way they butchered the highlight show last year.

it would cost a bit more to broadcast those games live or even a pretape broadcast. They would need a larger production crew as well as commentary and prep which adds up. However, its money well spent considering how many lax fans across the country that would tune in.

This is exactly right and I am quite sure there will be plenty of B-roll shot of the IA game to be cut into the main broadcast. I would be curious to know how your meeting with CSTV goes.

I work in television and know the numbers all too well. In a perfect world, IA games would be covered in the entirety. We have a wonderful product, the game of lacrosse but within that game there are two pro leagues and the collegiate varsity level... then IA. Ads make the world of sports television go 'round for terrestrial broadcasters (ABC,CBS,FOX,NBC).

Subscriber fees make up the bulk of cable broadcasters revenues. CSTV, while they have a deal with CBS in place and have several wealthy backers, does not generate the dollars at this point. IMO, I think that a deal with OLN should be worked out since Viacom has repurposed that channel with the addition of the NHL. Or find an outside production company that will do a time buy on say CSTV or OLN to shoot the game in its entirety.

As hard as it might be to imagine, networks do not make money off of the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB contracts. Rather those games are used to promote the other shows and specials on that particular network. That is why Monday Night Football is moving to ESPN and NBC is moving back in to the NFL television package after an eight year absence.

I will work out a budget for a one-day set/shoot/strike using a local crew and post that later.

CSTV already shoots the MDIA final in its entirety, at least it has the last 2 years, and then edits it down to a 1 hour highlight show. They already have the capability to broadcast the entire game.
