Practice Time
Just wondering when other teams practice. Because we are in Michigan, weather is always an issue for the Oakland team (about 12" of snow on the ground right now). So we are restricted to indoor practice bubbles. Because of our budget, we can only afford the worse times. So we generally practice between 10 PM and 1:30 AM. It makes for really ugly mornings.

When rain prevents us from practicing outdoors (cause snow shuts down everything) we are fortunate enough to have access to multiple indoor gyms on campus, depending on which one is available. Our practices usually only change by about 30-60 minutes difference.
still a maverick.

Man, I guess I won't complain about out 7-9 pm practices anymore. that is some dedication to get in there at 10 pm to 1 am.

We have just been practicing in the snow...about 5 inches the last two days, but we practice 5 days a week from 4pm to 6 pm. Groundballs in the snow is fun.

when we are forced indoors b/c of rain we usually are able to get an indoor soccer court in the rec center or a gym we call the "hot box" in the building that use to house aggie hoops. we are fortunate that our sport club dept. gives priority to the teams that are in season, so we usually don't have to change times or anything.

That’s funny, we have a similar gym that we call the "sweatbox." It’s an old building built back in the 50's that doubled as a fallout shelter. There used to be no ventilation in the gym so, you guessed it, you would sweat profusely. Now, it does have ventilation and it’s a great place for us to practice when the weather is foul.

hot box...sweat box...take your pick. like you said, you are sure to lose some lbs. after a 2 hour practice in that gym.

As you know Dwayne, we're right with you. Practice last night was at 10:30. We're fortunate to have a full indoor field available to us (at no charge), but it's in use literally from 7am to 2am every day. Even our golf teams use the building (before us, because they are varsity) to work on short game stuff. Time is at a premium. That limits us to 4 days/week in 90 minute to 2 hour blocks, maximum. We can get in during the morning to do some individual/small group work around class schedules, but we need more team practice time.
Light at the end of the tunnel - they're planning to build a second full-field indoor building here in the next few years. Obviously, that will make a lot more time available.
Interesting point on this topic, though. At our level, we wouldn't be able to function with afternoon practice times. Too many of our players are in majors that require afternoon labs and specific classes like engineering, pre-med, etc. Many of them chose this school because they play good lacrosse and still want to excel at a demanding major AND graduate in four years. Some of them chose this option over varsity options for exactly that reason.

South Carolina practices 7-9 on Monday and Wednesday, and 5-7 on Tuesday and Thursday. We share the field with the women's lacrosse club. Practice times are at a premium since all the sports clubs share the same field (M&W Soccer, M&W Rugby, M&W Lacrosse, and Ultimate Frisbee) so we've got to split it up. It's an added pain during the fall...the marching band uses the field (and digs ruts into it) until 7 so then we can only go twice a week. This is the first time we've been able to practice 4x a week (up from 2x as long as I can remember, back to '98). The guys seem to like their 5:30 to 6:45 classes, so there is trouble around that time. Hopefully next year we'll be able to practice 7-9 MTWTh and scrimmage on fridays 3-5.
Do your set practice schedules differ in the fall vs. the spring? i.e. less practices in the fall?

Dear everyone who has to deal with the freezing cold, snow and ice and crazy practice times because you are competing for time indoors with other teams...you should transfer to Florida. To be fair, it's not always warm and sunny...a couple guys had to break out sweathsirts this week.
and we get the occasional hurricane in the fall...
Our biggest problem is that tests are frequently given in the evenings outside of regular class hours. So even if guys schedule their classes around practice they still could miss a few for exams.

you guys are all more fortunate then Boston College...In the offseason we are lucky to get practice times once a week and they never tell us until almost a few days before...the varsity and intermural sports get priority at BC. Tough situation
