The West team, led by Kent Denver Head Coach Tom Graesser (Kent Denver, CO), beat the East team 10-9 this morning at the AB Center in Fenton, MO. in what must be considered a major upset. It is the first time the West will advance to the championship game under the current format. The West team, which featured 6 future MDIA freshman, overcame a 3 goal first quarter deficit to tie the game 6-6 at half-time. The score was 10-9 with 30 seconds remaining in the game, but the East team, which featured 15 DI recruits could not tie the game. The East team is coached by Doc Dougherty (Garden City, NY). The North crushed the South in the later game, 30-5.

Great news for the West! Perhaps we'll start to get a little more respect from those Easties now!

I was at the game on Saturday morning and enjoyed it thoroughly. Both teams played together very well, especially considering they'd had one practice.

East players who stood out for me were:
Pat Perritt (M-Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) - Syracuse
Max Pomper (M-Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) - Virginia
Ned Crotty (M-Mt. Vernon, NJ/Delbarton) - Duke
Austin Walker (A-Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) - Johns Hopkins

West players who stood out for me were:
Dan Gibson (A-Germantown, TN/Memphis U High) - Notre Dame
Charlie Henneghen (M-Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) - Penn State
Danny Kerch (M-Chesterfield, MO/DeSmet Jesuit) - Robert Morris
Matt Berg (D-Troy, MI/Troy Athens) - Army
Paul Collera (G-Cincinnati,OH/St. Xavier) - Gettysburg

Congrats to our future MDIA athletes on the West squad:
Ben Bukari - (A-Bloomfield Hills, MI/Detroit Country Day) - Michigan State
Michael Farinelli - (M-Carlsbad, CA/La Costa Canyon) - Chapman
Grant Damas - (D-Olathe, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) - Kansas State
Andrew Schroeder - (D-Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) - Lindenwood

My best wishes go out to Jordan Hendry (D-Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) who is headed to UMass in the fall. He suffered a nasty injury late in the 4th quarter and was removed from the field by ambulance. I would ask that everyone join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Since when has TN, MI, MO, & OH been considered to be the West?

You have to understand that if your state doesn't touch the Atlantic from Virginia north, you are in the lacrosse boonies, also known as the West.

As opposed to Georgia? Didn't I read the South got crushed 30-5!

WCLL dominated the MDIA championships this year, 3 California teams in the two mens finals, and UCSB the ONLY back-to-back champions!
