Anyone know of players to watch in the upcoming U19 division in Vail, especially those that might be MDIA bound? I will be up there all week and will be happy to provide some advance scouting (for a fee, of course. Perhaps I should figure out that whole "Paypal" thing). In all seriousness, if you know of players to watch from your hometown or those coming into your school and want some inside scoop, let me know and I will try to check them out.

Do you have access to rosters up there? I'd be curious about anyone going to BYU or CSU...

Team Utah has a nice attack featuring Kolby Rubeling out of Boys Latin/Oakley School with HS-AA's Ted Ferrin, a Jr. (BYU) and Matt Qualey (Utah)

Defense is lead by Ryan Boyle (Villanova). Midfield will include twin brothers, Ricky and Danny Larkin (D. III DeSales University) Absent from the team is Walker Hewlett (Ohio Wesleyan) who is participating at the NSS in St. Louis this weekend.

Team Utah U-19 is coached by Mase Goodhand (Utah) and former University of Vermont Asst. Coach Clayton Jones out of Brown University.

Ted Ferrin and Corey Gunderson will be nice additions to the attack as part of the '06 freshman class.

Team Colorado always has a lot of very talented players. Many of them will most likely be attending DI programs. This team will be one to check out because they always make it far into the tournament.

There is no U19 team from Minnesota up in Vail this year. Baltimore and Colorado advanced to the U19 championship tomorrow. Should be a pretty good game. i

ONpoint.

Thanks - that's what I had heard, but was unsure.

G29 - Thanks for the update on the U17 team. I did know that they had played "well" but was unsure about how well.

Great game. 13-12 Colorado. Baltimore just kind of went through the motions all week, but the team from Colorado was very strong. I'm working on getting an article together for this game, but "real" work calls and I have to sneak it in at lunch time.

From Flip's journal...sounds like a great game:

"In the High School Boys tournament, the Colorado Team beat the Crabs from Baltimore today in a 13-12 thriller, a fantastic finish complete with a 3-minute, non-releasable, illegal stick penalty to add to the drama of the Maryland comeback which fell just short. With 16 teams entered, this U 19 tournament is getting to represent to the victor quite the coveted little piece of Lucite."

Now that the high school is over, perhaps of most interest to the people on this forum will be the players in the elite bracket. I had the benefit of checking out most of the teams' rosters and here are some of the MDIA guys who will be up in Vail this weekend and the teams they will play for. We keep the entire tournament on statcrew (something I recommend the MDIA think about for the future - it allows you to keep detailed stats for a four day tourney, including point scorers, face-off men, saves, etc. Very interesting stuff, perhaps would be more so in the MDIA tourney then in Vail, but it is still cool here) so you can track your favorite players online at www.vaillacrosse.com. Here are some guys to watch for (I apologize for the guys I miss, please add them):

Team Rock-it Pocket:
This team has more per capita MDIA players than any other in the tourney. Only three guys on our squad did not play in the MDIA. We have a good squad and will play Team Guttman (Middlebury alums) in the first round.

Nick Stanitz-Harper, Danny Stevens - Attack - CSU

Luke Wilson - Attack - UCSB
Kale Nelson, Pat Bird, Tim Farquhar, Mike Roth, Ryan Ferrin, Mike Murphy, and others - Midfield - CSU

Eric Johnson - Midfield - UCSB

Kellin Bershinsky, Pat Coy, Ryan Price - Defense - CSU

Dave Gorham, Mike Towers - Defense - UCSB

Mark Plonkey (CSU) and Damon Conklin-Moragne (UCSB) - LSM

Alex Smith and Pete Jokisch - Goaltender - CSU

We are excited about playing with the UCSB guys. Our defense should be pretty good.

Team Mammoth:
Mike Napolilli - Midfield - CSU (he's a traitor, we know . . . if you know him, make fun of him for it)

Tap Room:
Chris Bluse - Goaltender - Colorado

Northwest Nirvana:
Chris Shogun - Attack - Gonzaga
Josh Saunders - Midfield - Washington State

CityGille/Flying Dog:
Jason Anderson - Attack - Colorado
Brian Kinsella and Matt McConaty - Boston College

Like I said, I'm sure I missed some guys. There will also be a "replacement" team for one of the squads that did not show that will have a bunch of CSU guys on it too. Stay tuned for more!
