I realize that we just wrapped up the '05 season, but I can't help but think ahead to next year. IMO these are the teams (in no particular order) in the mix in '06:
Sonoma:
Key losses: Esposito, Wiley, Hamann
Returners: B. Johnson, Cannis, Pringle, Cornelison, Williams
CSU:
Losses: Stanitz-Harper, Farquhar
Returners: Jokisch, Bird, Cunningham, Chorey, Bershinsky
BYU:
Losses: Tschaggeny, Stevenson, Cone, (gone on missions?)
Returners: M. Davis, Bateman, Archibald, (back from missions?)
UCSB:
Losses: Brittain, Patton, Isaksen, Wilson, Starting D
Returners: Conklin, Stratton
Michigan:
Losses: Webber, Silverman, Kozel, Clark
Returners: Fox, Krauss, Constantine, Morales
Oregon:
Losses: Ernst
Returners: Coffman, Connors, Cordova
Florida State:
Losses: Paustian, Borkowski
Returners: Romanchuk, Herzog, Cecil, McFadden
Colorado:
Losses: ?
Returners: Bailey, Morgan, Anderson, Atwood, Tapy
UCSD:
Losses: ?
Returners: Dean, Hays, Price, McCall
Others: Lindenwood, Arizona, Utah, Cal Poly (with Tim Casey back)
This could be a very exciting year in the MDIA. Obviously, there is a lot of time between now and next spring and plenty can happen, but what does everyone think?

Without taking into account any incoming players, I think the teams to beat will be CSU & Sonoma. Those 2 teams lost the least from very good squads. You never know about BYU with their comings & goings at odd times, but they always manage to put together a good team.
UCSB took a big hit with the senior class they lost. They have a couple of ready replacements in the defense with Carney & Nejdl. They should be fine at attack with Stratton, Shaw & Kubitz and the return of Christensen from injury. They always manage to find midfielders to fill the losses, but you never really replace a player of Patton's ability. The big question is who steps in at goal. They have a returnee, Sheridan, who is largely untested. It should be interesting to see how they rebound.
Michigan will have holes to fill, especially at goalie, but their freshmen & sophomores last year will be that much tougher with a year of experience under their belt. Watch out for them again next year.

FSU loses only 1 or 2 impact players and their incoming recruiting class from central FL is absolutley sick. 3 AA's plus like the best 2 kids from each of the 30 teams from jacksonville to orlando, add that whatever they get from South FLa and their normal 40 transfers. They will be better than 05.

BYU should be okay next spring...Powers and Cole should be back from this year's Freshman class. There will be a log jam in goal with Powers, Glenn M. and Kikumoto coming home from a mission.
Archibald and Harris back at close D, Bateman, Cole and Lalor running at midfield with one Angelos coming in from Upper Arlington, OH and the other Angelos coming home from a mission, and Davis and Davis on attack.
However...CSU has a very strong team coming back and we know next to nothing about the incoming class. Add in how last season ended and they will certainly be at the top of a lot of pre-season polls come next spring.
I plead ignorance on anyone outside the RMLC...

seems like they usually have about 60 on the sidelines in the past few years, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had at least 50 new guys trying to make their team.

well it shouldn't be a problem trying to make the team if it's as easy as getting into the school...............boyyaaaa...........had to say it for rivals sake.....No they'll definitely be stacked next year......at the very least, an SELC championship unless something drastically goes wrong like firing their coach again

Here’s a name to look out for Mark Hammitt at Michigan. He played two years ago for BC, took last year off, and just transferred to U of M. He had 6 goals in a first round game against Oregon two years ago in St. Louis, he’s going to be a big addition if the year off didn’t hurt him.
Also, I think you have to look out for Northeastern they surprised a lot of people this year with two big wins at the tournament and they come back largely intact from a year ago.

Any word on the new facility at FSU? Will it be done for the spring?

Styrker could probably chime in here, i don't really have any insight.
Hopefully they won't have to move the college of circus' big top to make room for the new facility.
BYU and Utah will both be improved:

BYU looks to be shaping up as follows:
Goal: Glen M., C. Powers return and C. Kikumoto returns from Switerland but will probably red-shirt if Cougars go into the season injury free at goal.
Defense: AA C. Archibald and J. Harris return; AA B. Kubesh has decided not to play his Sr. season. Paul Sabey returns from mission to step in for Kubesh. Murphy Smith, a sensational LSM returns from mission with 4 yrs eligibility
Midfield: Bateman, Cole, Theurer and both Austins return; Ryan Angelos returns from mission and will have immediate impact on first line. Two incoming freshman may contribute.
Attack: M. Davis, Z. Davis return - K. Gunderson and Warner return to replace Stevenson (who will coach) Freshman Andrew Shumway may contribute (Heir still preaching until 2007 season)
Utah returns everyone! Adds freshman HS-AA Matt Qualey, R. Levi from Gilman School in Baltimore, a healthy M. Goodhand and 7 Utah All-State players - they will be improved!

So it may have been a bit premature to start this topic in June. Now that Fall-ball is just around the corner, what does everyone think? How high will FSU and Oregon be ranked? How far will UCSB and Michigan fall with all of their losses? Who are the sleeper teams for '06 (Utah, Lindenwood)? How about preseason player of the year? Any thoughts?
