Hate to say it, but looks like the Powell's are guilty. In the brochure for thier camp, they have all the kids wearing Harrow pennys.

The claims are based on the Powell brothers' appearance at lacrosse clinics associated with another lacrosse-equipment supplier, Harrow Sports. The Powell's employment agreement expressly allows them to appear at lacrosse clinic, according to court filings.

Warrior is trying to take over lacrosse through the court system. They are currently involved with other legal matters vs. various companies regarding stick curviture, etc. At some point, it is going to come back on them when they have monopolized the market and every other company sues THEM. Not terribly good for the game, in my opinion.

On a side note, the Powells were getting upwards of $76,000 a year!! If only I could hook up a job like that in lacrosse.

Maybe eventually they'll be the only stick manufacturer and every stick will be illegal! (I'm exagerating, of course, but they do seem to like to make equipment that's right on the borderline.)

What are you talking about LaxRef? You did not get that memo? It came out about 2 weeks ago. It was from US Lacrosse. It is officially a rule that all players must use Warrior equipment. You are no longer allowed to call anything that Warrior makes illegal, but if it is made by any other equipment manufacturer then it is automatically illegal.

In my few short years with this sport I have played with equipment from most manufacturers. I have broken more equipment made by Warrior than any other manufacturer. The customer service at Warrior is great, but the equipment is not.

Then throw in their NLL and MLL contracts and they are making six figures to play lacrosse. Plus they had a cell phone and a Benz out of the deal. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Apparently they have not yet realized the vast untapped resources that I may afford them as a washed up former goalie from the MDIA. I'll get right on sending that memo over to Morrow.

They already have their P.I.M.P. stuff, I am sure they need someone for their Goalie Enchancing Equipment Krap.

Not too surprising considering e-lacrosse's role as both an online purveyor of lacrosse goods AND an editorial page conveying messages of their own choosing. Given that Warrior does not advertise, sell, nor seemingly have any affiliation with this online lax giant it would make sense that e-lacrosse sides with 2 individuals who are "columnists" and personalities associated with their site and not the proverbial 800 pound gorilla shunning their services. I use the word columnist loosely here as I have yet to read any of the epic prose from the first family of lacrosse. That all being said, I would not look at e-lacrosse as an unbiased, oblective lacrosse journal. If I was in their shoes I too, would make out warrior to be the bad guy, and in the past they have (anyone remember their editorial last fall bashing warrior for being too edgy? With that all being said, Warrior is a business and from what I can tell the Powells plainly violated their contract- maybe if they brought it to a lawyer to review, this entanglement may have been avoided. Most likely this will rule in Warriors favor, though I am about as much a legal expert as I am a smelt rangler.... which is to say not much at all. Yet Morrow seems to be no dummy, he is a Princeton grad afterall, and his business is a rousing success whether you like it or not. Personally, I like it- why not bring a little fun and outlandish humor to the game? If I had my choice I'd wear those Mac-daddy gloves over anything else, both for the function and the style.
And because being able to rock PIMP gear appeals to the inner womanizer inside of me.

THE LATEST (6/22): Mediation is over! After 5 hours of intense discussion, a settlement is reached. Don't expect a lot of details but Casey and Ryan are reinstated at Brine and will be back in Rochester uniforms next weekend. We are sure a release will come out soon with slightly more detail, but it's over. Casey and Ryan are back, free from Warrior (other than MLL equipment monopoly) and you can now re-read our "Casey and Ryan Join Brine" article with renewed enthusiasm.

I'm just glad things were worked out between the Powells and Warrior.

But not too much credit in terms of their skill. I agree the Powells are amazing lacrosse players and do a lot for the sport, but the writer of the above article claims that the MLL would simply fold up and die without the Powells in it. That is simply not true. The MLL is slowly growing and is doing well in itself despite the fact that the major league sports market has been football, baseball, basketball, and hockey forever.

Warrior made the right moves. The writer makes a point that Warrior fired the Powells and this resulted in a number of hardships for them. When the fact remains that they were in breach of contract! Firing them was the way respond to that breach and violation of a still valid contract clause was the reason for taking them to court.

IMHO, the Warrior prez is a very capable businessman and the loss of the Powells wouldn't kill the company simply because if you ask a young kid just starting to play lacrosse which equipment he'd wear, "Warrior or Brine?", how many kids do you know will say WARRIOR! The brand name works wonders for that company.

Best of luck to the Powells though, they are incredible players and I hope they can stay free from anymore obnoxious legal entanglements.

Keep in mind that e-lacrosse employs the Powells, so it behooves them to write the Powells in a favorable light.

Ryan and Casey are great guys, I have nothing but respect for them both and still keep in touch with them once in a while. What they did was wrong, and a contract is a contract, but hopefully we all can move on.

Dave as well as Ryan and Casey have worked very hard in getting lacrosse on the map. Both camps benefited from each other in the beginning . It’s sad that he had to come to this, and like your mother said don’t believe everything you read or hear (e-lacrosse)
