I agree that the system is flawed, but what recognition system isn't? Considering what we have to work with (or more appropriately, what we don't have to work with) in terms of seeing everyone play, I think the IA does a pretty good job with national recognition.

By the way, there are 16 voters for AA awards. I'm one of them, and I didn't get a single call or email from another coach lobbying for his players or anyone else's. With 16 voters and no lobbying, how does politics play a part? That seems like a convenient excuse to justify a different opinion on the results.

Agree, but how does the MVP at the league/conference level end up being a Honorable Mention? Forget about the team thing, cause an individual is an individual, and as long as that individual is considered the best at his position by a majority of the voters (which is how the MVP is selected) in one's conference, then he deserves fitting recognition despite how well his team performed. I guess you have to have someone who votes pulling for you, and if your coach or another coach or voter is not one of the 16 then you're out or should I say not getting a pick for one of the top spots. Am I getting the gist of how this works?

simple math my friend. There are 9 leagues, and I would assume 9 POY. If there are only 6 slots on 1st and 2nd Team combined that means 3 people will get left off. This is of course assuming that all players are the same position.

Other factors can be the team's performance. Others may look at the team and if they are not a championship caliber team maybe this dis-credits the performance somewhat.

There are always going to be more questions than answers.

Chris Files from North Texas was named offensive MVP in the LSA, but received honorable mention AA. I would consider this due to their schedule, which featured 1 ranked team which was a conference game anyway.

a few quick observations:

the LSM from UCSB is a great player, but after watching both him and the Michigan LSM in Blaine, i think the AAs turned out to be pretty accurate.

and i think peanut21 makes a valid point in a way. the North Texas LSA MVP made honorable mention and his team played only one ranked team, but what about Kevin Schoneck from Florida who was mentioned earlier in this post? I remember the kid from his D1 days and he was the defensive mvp from the SELC and to my knowledge Florida played in the Michigan Invitational against Michigan, Colorado, and Oregon as well as playing Chico and FSU. Which aside from being ranked teams those 5 represent a bunch of different conferences as well.

just wondering about all this. congrats to all the AAs though, im sure all were deserving and honored appropriately.

schoneck did make all american. i think somewhere there is the misconception that he didn't.

had his team had a better season you would have likely seen him on 2nd team at least.

It would stand to reason that if you win the Defensive MVP of your league, you should be the highest ranked defensive player on the AA lists from your league. I believe that other defensemen from SELC were given higher AA honors than Kevin and that is unusual.
