I was just wanted to know why there is not any stats for CSU, BYU, UCSB, Uof M, or any top teams on the stats page of our site? I know other teams enter there player stats. It seems like some of the top teams do not enter any of there player stats, is there a reason for that?

UCSB and CSU enter their stats. They just aren't at the top of the list because their points are more spread out and they play more games. Sort by points not points per game.

We don't enter stats here because they are not accurately kept here. Varsity games are not included (even if they are real games, like yours and ours versus St. Vincent), and game participation is not taken into account. If this site goes to the system the CCLA site used last year, that tracked all games and included game participation in the formula, we'll go back to entering them here. In the meantime, our own website has all the statistics anyone could ever want.

(I don't mean any of this as a criticism of Sonny and Matt, who've done an amazing job getting this site up and going so well after the catastrophe in the fall. I'm just waiting until it's improved and accurate to make full use of it.)

On a side note, the CCLA did not use a participation system last year. I believe that was 2 years ago. Stats here are kept accurately, there is just a difference in opinion about how to interpret the information.

It seems that at leats a few people want this. I think that it's a wonderful idea for teams like yours and mine that have the ability, and the means to track the participation of every player through out every game. However, many B and newer A teams don't have 3-5 managers/stat persons to take care of this, so I think that it's something that people really should consider. This site is about the USL MDIA as a whole so we have to keep the little guys in mind.

Also, If someone is showing up in 1 or 2 games, and they put in 5 goals in each, they are not going to show up on the stats page any ways because there is (and will remain) a 3 game minimum. It's not fair to someone that is busting their butt every game, putting in consistantly 2 goals, and 2 assists to be listed lower than someone who gets in for the second half of a blow out, and puts in 4 goals and an assist.

It's also not fair to just use striclty "goals" or "assists" without a per game system because northern teams have... how do I say this... "April Heavy" schedules, where as southern teams can get in a lot more games in Jan/Feb.

As far as doing a per game participation system.

1. I am not opposed to it.

2. I'd like to see what MANY other coaches feel about it.

3. it's too late to do it this year, and it wouldn't be difficult at all to get it going for next year.

I want to make sure that every usl mdia team feels comfortable with the site. We already get over a million hits a month, and I'm really proud that what sonny, and the rest of us have come up with is something that you all are that interested in.

p.s. Basically what we are talking about would be a little check box next to each players name in the scores entry page that says "they played" or "they did not play".

I think one problem a lot of teams have is that they have to input in two or three different places. For instance, there is the RMLC website, which is totally separate from the CSU website, which is totally separate from this website. If there were some way to incoporate all the leagues and the MDIA so only one input would be needed, I believe you would see the most participation.

The CCLA web site is hosted on the same server as USLIA.com (and actually on the same server as MSU's web site. Because of that, CCLA teams only need to enter there info once (possibly twice if they do it on their own web site).

I'd be more than glad to provide some sort of data sharing tool with anyone out there who wants to. i.e. I can provide CSV, or any other format file you want of your teams stats.

If you are a web developer out there working for other sites, and want access to this info, just send me a private message, and I'll try to get something figured out.

I would just alter that to say "dressed" or "not dressed" since the league rules says a player played in the game if they dressed and are on the roster.

I would be in favor of using a dressed and not dressed button. One of our leading scorers is not playing in the next game (due to academic commitment) and this will severely effect his points per game average. If there is anyway to add it now that would be incredible, if not, I'll wait till next year.

I agree with onpoint about having one place to enter stuff, especially since you have to enter your roster with USLIA for the application and none of that rolls over to the team page. I don't know much about the web stuff, but it seems like we could find a way to do this.

I also, agree with the dressed/not dressed toggle for handling the PPG issues. The other bad thing about the stats is that you have to rely upon all the teams you play away to enter their schedules for those stats to show up. This should be changed or made mandatory.

We get the same problem with accuracy of Goalies' stats on pncll.com -- if they dress, they are on the scoresheet. If they are on the scoresheet, they "played" as far as the database is concerned.

At UW, we alternate Goalies by game usually -- either of our Keepers typically start and play the entire game. Only twice have we switched Goalies during the game. I think our starter has played 7 1/2 games and our backup has played 3 1/2 games, yet on the Goalies' stat page it shows both playing 11 games.

Oh, well...

Unless your goalies are getting points, I don't think it's as big of a deal if goalies are shown as having played 11 games. Their "average" stats are all based on saves and goals so playing more games doesn't make them look any better or worse.

Unless you are tracking goals allowed per game, in which case you have to track not only which games they played in, but how many minutes.

The statcrew software that virtually all varsity teams use now (in most team sports, even D1 football) does an amazing job of keeping and archiving stats. It's not expensive. It's easy to learn and use if you have someone you can dedicate to it. We've been using it for two years. I think CSU and I know BYU also use it. I realize many teams don't have the resources or desire to keep stats at that level, but if you do - that's the way you should be doing it. Get rid of those old stat books.
