ESPN's Coverage of this weekend's NCAA championship

Lacrosse is gaining attention as one of the nation’s fastest growing sports and this weekend in Foxborough, MA, ESPN is helping to spur that growth. Providing deeper coverage than ever before of the national semifinal and championship games, the network is doubling the number of cameras used for the broadcasts, micing up the officials and returning the games to HD.

I was dissapointed last year when the spelling bee was broadcast in HD and lax wasn't.

These are going to be outstanding! Micing the refs is great too, fans will get as much better idea of how good a job these guys do at game administration and talking to the players.

Good find E.

Let's hope there are some close, competitive games to match the television production side.

My ESPN2 is NOT working right now... it's the only channel through Comcast that isn't broadcasting. This is infuriating! I hope nobody else has this problem

That game was a heart breaker. Va held them to three until the third quarter, thats pretty impressive. Lots of time outs. That made it so painful to watch.

I must say I was not impressed at all by the Duke/Hopkins game. It just wasn't exciting to watch. Kind of like watching the Spurs and Pistons play basketball

I think it was one of the best performances I have ever seen. Hopkins' ability to slow down Duke's transition game was unbelievable. Duke still had 2 good runs but overall, Hopkins game plan was amazing. They rattled Duke from start to finish... very cool.

Huntley's behind the back goal was also amazing. In fact, all 4 of his goals were pretty awesome.

Hopkins rocks. Most patient game I've ever seen.

Duke's run-and-gunners got their panties all bunched up over Hopkins' old-school style, which was manifested by Duke's lack of discipline. I think the better-coached team won this one.

I see JHU taking it all. Again.

Apparently warding, like traveling in NCAA and NBA games, isn't called anymore. On his one handed scoop shot, the Hopkins player was grabbing the Duke player's stick with his off hand. I know frequent warding calls don't make for compelling broadcasts of lacrosse games, but rules are rules, right?

Ok, so where is LaxRef? Obviously I'm sure refs do not want to second guess other refs. But I noticed over the season and these games that the swim move seems to be making a huge comeback. I know that technology plays a huge role. But I think the free hand play is also contributing to this move working so well -- especially Rabil from Hopkins. If you saw the games, what do you think? Are they allowing free hand play on swims??
