Anyone see this in the latest IL mag? They have a 24 team tourney and include a bunch of current MCLA teams:
FSU, BC, BYU, Mich, GA Tech, CSU, Utah, TCU
I thought it was pretty cool.

I wish FSU would get NCAA Lax. It wont happen with their current field holding I'd say about 300 in seating. Definitely no more than 500. I don't think the University will let them use Doak (the might though) so I could see them using the Soccer Complex which seats 1,600. If their is enough buzz about having D-1 NCAA they could have enough supporters to warrant use of Duke. No one uses it during the spring except for the Football Spring Game but that is one Saturday in the whole spring.

Getting a field is the least of the issues in FSU's case. Title IX is the 500 lb gorilla in that room and the fact that so many scholarships are going towards the football team doesnt help. Bobby Bowden is not the problem...He once allowed the WVU club team to use the varsity fields for game(s) back in the day. From what Coach Harkins says, the recent movement in the direction of varsity status is dead. I'm with you, though. I think FSU would be a great place to have Varsiy Lax. The attitude of the athletic dept combined with the weather and...scenery would draw top recruits as well as a top coach. They would be competitive very quickly. Unfortunately, in other news, Hell freezes over.

This is the first I have heard of this. Hugh how do you know this. Is this going to affect their recruiting? Hopefully they can get the idea back into the universities mind or they may see a downfall in the number of players coming to FSU (that coupled with the harder admission standards which I find amusing)

Well I would really like to beat Pietramala in the First round in 16 years. Might be his final time as a coach after so many years at The HOP.
GO FROGS!!
Seriously I have heard from a lot people across the country respond how great this article was and how excited it got them to think up the possibilities. The problem as HUGH NUNN correctly states is the Title IX issue. Now with SEC baseball putting up a proposal it increase their scholarship limit, that kills the expansion or even possibilities of adding new sports programs to the university.
As an AD I would rather pay for a lacrosse team that plays 16 games a season and then playoffs, then have to pay for over 50 games that a baseball team will play during a season.
But I might be biased because I love lacrosse so much!

Definitely not your bias -

With a ball in play 12 minutes of an entire baseball game, it's hard to fathom how people enjoy watching games.

That was hilarious.

What was the gist of the article? Did they play anything out or did it just say don't be surprised if this is the tournament field?

They had the final four on Denver and the four teams were FSU, BC, Harvard and Syracuse.
They didn't pick winner in those games.

After checking Seminoles.com, if scholarships weren't an issue, they could add Men's lacrosse right now as they have 9 women's sports to 8 men's. Maybe they could keep the football scholarships equaled out and add both lacrosse teams.

I am not an expert on Title IX but i believe there also needs to be an equal representation of monies between mens and womens sports. They probably aren't compliant because they pump hundreds of thousands of dollars more into the football program compared to womens underwater basket weaving team. Also football has such a large roster that the opportunity for women needs to be equal so you need to add two teams to make up for the large roster of the football team. Basically unless they switch up title ix, the expansion of D1 lacrosse to major schools (SEC, PAC 10, etc) is HIGHLY unlikely. sad but true.

it goes deeper than scholarships
Take a look at female enrollment and compare to money spent & participation.

Agree. Pretty much til they realize that football needs to be it's own entity, nothing is going to happen. Football is a monster, it makes the money, so it gets the money. Make it Football/Men's Sports/Women's Sports and then all would be gravy, minus the football department might be pissed that all their money is getting spread out even more to support more teams that don't make money.
