graduate student eligibility

I've had a prospective graduate level student contact me about enrolling in MOBap's MBA program and play lacrosse here too...This particular guy played for Mizzou for only 1 year, so I would assume he has 3 years of eligibility left, right?

BUT I have been told recently that if you are a graduate level student and have eligibility left you can only play for the school that you received your undergraduate degree from.

Is this true?

Seeing how MOBap wishes to become a part of the GRLC we want to make sure we are following the correct policies and procedures.

I thought it had changed.. but the FAQ states it as being true.

It has changed. As long as he has eligibility remaining (in this case, it sounds like he has three years), and he is taking 12 credit hours during the season (which is a huge load for most graduate students), he is eligible...no matter where he received his undergraduate degree.

Can we get the FAQ amended then?

I would imagine so. But I think leagues can have their own rules.. Could be wrong, but doesn't the WCLL have a requirement of 12 credits in fall and not just spring semesters to play lacrosse?

whoa-I have one year of eligibility left-so if I win the lottery and decide to go back for a graduate degree and take a full load, I could play under this rule?

I had a dream that I made a comeback-call it a vision

Win the lottery? Depending on what you want a graduate degree in.. I think you can get paid to get it :D

getting paid to get your graduate degree is the way to go. school is much better when you arent paying for it.
if its your last semester of school before graduation as an undergrad, you do not need a full load to be eligible. i assume the same goes for a graduate student?

If anyone is looking for a place to play out their eligibility, we'd love to have you at Boise State! Tuition waivers, good stipends, low cost of living, and free housing! Plus you get that blue turf... if they'd ever let us play on it again.

Thanks for all your help...

But they have to take 12 credit hours?

At the graduate level to be a "full time student" (and I've seen this at other universities) you only need to take 6 hours

I'm taking 9 myself right now, it would be hard to imagine taking 12 and playing lax

lottery-I would need that to afford me the time to go back-I am busting my hump with my day job to keep our country safe, changing my kid's diapers and trying to teach him how to roll dodge. With a nice bigger mortgage on the new house I just built, and all the expenses of trying to raise a couple kids in suburbia-I would need a pile of cash to fall in my lap. if I ever wanted to take the time to go back (at least all in one shot).

But I'll keep Boise in mind-I actually had transfer opportunity to go out there about a year ago. I didn't really think about it then-but now that I know I can play one more year....

only I get to play on the smurf turf

Unfortunately, yes. There are some on the board who are opposed to graduate students playing at all. Some faught hard over the past few years to allow grad students to play for a school where they did not attend undergrad, and that was finally passed last summer. Keeping it at 12 was a compromise. I imagine it will eventually be altered to read more like the NCAA rule that just accepts a "full time" definition from each school for grad students, but for now it's still 12 credit hours.

See if you can con your academic adviser to get you some DIS credits to fill out your schedule to 12 credits.
