It seems that Domincan is very happy about their new recruit, Kyle Donovan from Monte Vista High School. The head coach Ned Webster said "He is the player we are building this program around."

Does this also mean that Augustana, Wheaton, and others in the area will be seeking NCAA membership?

Carthage Adding NCAA Intercollegiate Lacrosse; David Neff Hired as Lacrosse Coach

Carthage College director of athletics Robert Bonn announced that the school will launch NCAA intercollegiate lacrosse programs for the men in the spring of 2009 and for the women in the spring of 2010. David Neff has been hired as the coach for both teams, and he will begin work on Sept. 1, 2007.

“Carthage's commitment to lacrosse is an exciting opportunity for both the Carthage and the lacrosse community,” said Neff. “I am excited to join the Carthage family, and I’m honored to be a part of launching this program.” “Coach Neff combines a real passion for the sport with an incredible knowledge with all levels of lacrosse in the Midwest,” said Bonn. “I am very confident that we will develop first-class men’s and women’s lacrosse programs for Carthage in the very near future.”

As of the 2007-08 academic year, 140 NCAA Division III institution sponsor men’s varsity lacrosse, with 169 sponsoring women’s lacrosse. For the moment, the Ohio-based North Coast Athletic Conference is the nearest league to sponsor the sport. In the Midwest, the only current varsity programs are at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Mo., and Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. All three lacrosse program play as independents.

Neff served as the coach of the Benedictine University (Ill.) club team in 2007, as well as an assistant coach for Team Illinois in both 2006 and 2007. From 2005 to 2006, he coached the club team at St. Charles High School in St. Charles, Ill. Prior to that, he coached the club team at Nequa Valley High School in Naperville, Ill., from 2000 to 2004 and was named the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association “Coach of the Year” in 2002.

Neff received a bachelor’s in finance from the University of Illinois in 1995 and a master’s in business administration, also from Illinois, in 1998. Neff was a member of the Illini club lacrosse team and a 1997 United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association all-star. He has been active in several Chicago-area summer camps, including Lacrosse America youth clinics. His father, John Neff, graduated from Carthage in 1963 and was a 1997 inductee into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

Saw this over in the SELC forum. This answers the question of whether FSU is going Varsity. I know no one explicitly said they were, but the rumors have been flying on multiple message boards. Rory Whipple going to FSU was a good sign they were, his leaving indicates there must have been a recent decision not to field a varsity lacrosse team.

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach High School athletic director Tim Tharp has announced Rory Whipple as the new boys lacrosse coach.

Whipple dives into the high school level after spending the last three decades in the college ranks, where he coached lacrosse at Clarkson University and Hartwick College in New York for a combined 22 years and at Bryant University in Rhode Island for six seasons.

A 1976 graduate of Cortland State (N.Y.), Whipple spent last year as an assistant for the Florida State University club lacrosse program, but grew an interest in prep lacrosse when he also took on the task of coaching the Lincoln High School team in Tallahassee last spring.

We have known about Carthage for some time. They are in our conference but as of yet, Augustana's administration has no plans to add men's lacrosse at this time. Who is to say that in two years they won't but the athletic department just got back to being Title IX compliant.

If Augustana does go varsity, that is exciting and wonderful. There is a lot of tradition at this institution and varsity lacrosse will only add to that.

Looks like the next Div I team will be Pressler's Bryant. This would probably explain why we haven't seen his name in the mix for the last two big jobs - Harvard and Lehigh.

Bryant D1?

Postby Troy Hood on Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:07 pm

Do they have the resources? According to his recruiting article in the latest IL, his program is funded. but at the D2 level.

Also, wouldn't Bryant have to go D1 in everything?

Due to the D! moratorium, unless they have already put in their paperwork, it isn't happening anytime soon.

Last I checked they had already applied for an "exploratory" process or something similar, so I think they snuck in before the latest rule change.
Check out the laxpower forums its been all over there for a while.

Bump...added NCAA DII Briarcliffe College.
Couldn't find much info on this small for-profit New York institution.
