Rivalry Games?

UF / FSU, big on a regional scale. two teams that hate each other and 1000 unruly fans and a DJ on the other sideline.

BYU vs. CSU
BYU vs. Oregon
CSU vs. CU

I don't think one or two years of big games constitutes a rivalry (Oregon v BYU). I do agree with the other two. I think the rivalries are between teams in the same league because they usually have to play each other every year.

Might not have the history, but behind CSU, it's the game I look forward to the most. I think it's headed in the same direction of BYU/CSU, especially if both teams maintain their status as top 5 teams.

What about UCSB v BYU then. They have been top five teams for the past 8 or 9 years. I'm also pretty sure they have played each other every year during that time. And until last year, the games were very close. I think UCSB is the only MCLA team they have a losing record against.

I can't wait too, but I'm pretty sure that game will be at Harder Stadium. I'll be peacefully watching from the stands behind the BYU bench.

Oregon vs SFU is a good one up North too. We really have never gotten along too well with the Canadians

Being a relative neophyte to the MCLA, I don't have a grasp on the big rivalry games out there. As I go through the year and look at the schedule I'd like to know what the big rivalry games are. I can guess the big ones -- the traditional ones -- like Arizona-ASU, Michigan-MSU, etc., but what about some non-traditional ones?

For example, when I was in California I attended the WCLL championship game and I was told UCSB and Sonoma State had a pretty decent rivalry going. The amount of tortillas being thrown from the stands seemed to confirm that. Also, BC and Northeastern have developed a rivalry in the PCLL being the top dogs in Boston.

I know a rivalry can be a subjective call, but what are some rivalry games I should keep an eye out for? And any background or history of the game helps. Thanks in advance. -- JAC

BC-NU has definitely become a very heated rivalry of late, but I would also put Boston University in there with those two. 3 teams all within 5 miles of each other in the city makes for extreme bragging rights.

You cant go wrong with CU vs CSU. CSU hase been winning the games as of late but you cant get a better rivalry game with two in-state schools that HATE eachother in everyway possible. Plus the last few years the game has been played at Mile High staduim in front of around 4-5 thousand very rowdy fans, with that being said it is probably the most exciting, hardest hitting, and hated rivalry game in the MCLA today.

I know a big one, probably the only one in fact, for our team at Western Oregon is against the Raiders of Southern Oregon University. Consider the history: Both teams joined the PNCLL the same year in '04/'05, out of 4 regular season match-ups in our first 3 seasons each team's records are 2-2, I don't think either team has beaten the other by more than 4 goals, both teams have made play-off runs and jumped into the top 25 nationally in their first 3 years of existence, and the real topper is that our only play-off match-up, last season in the first round, saw a late game lead change take SOU to a one goal victory.
These games are always very intense and get extremely physical, with plenty of smack talking on the field by both sides. I know that it is a game that I always look forward to playing in, and is easily the game our team looks forward to most every year. I think it will only get better with the passing of this season, as our game has, not only in conference, but also national implications with a lot riding on it for both teams. Can't wait for Saturday March 8th!

I'll agree with Brauck and BYUalum and say UO-BYU isn't a rivalry game yet, but that game, CSU and then SFU are the games the ducks have circled on the schedule. U of O at CSU should be an intense game.

Although it's new, it's become big and I'm sure it'll become much larger. UVSC (UVU now) and Westminster aren't very fond of each other on the field and the games have been close.

After playing both basketball and lacrosse at BYU, I came to the conclusion that almost everyone BYU plays thinks they have a rivalry with them. As we know, BYU is one of the most hated schools in the country.

i would say ask anyone in big ten, sec or acc land who the most hated it would probably be Notre Dame but really it depends for what sport. No one really knows/hates BYU sports where i am from.

The SC v UCLA game is always pretty damn chippy. Cops had to come at half last year to stop fighting in the crowd.
