MLL teams

Postby WCLLPREZ on Wed Dec 20, 2006 6:05 pm

Sonny,

Let me know if you want to do something at a SF Dragons game. Since I work in their front office, I can get you in touch with the sponsorship person and see if we can get you a good deal to sponsora game or such.

Sonny...what's your real goal here? If it's driving traffic, then whatever you do, needs to refer people back to the website. If it's flyers or handouts, there's got to be some prompt back to the website.

What about some type of raffle where you have to register at the website? Most of us have registered for the newsletter, so have a raffle for those registering after 1/1/07.

What about a membership drive among conference teams? Add a field onto the registration screen that asks what team they follow. Challenge each team get 100 new people (alumni, parents, friends...) registered. The team that accounts for the most new people registered gets some type of deal with Serpent for 50 custom shafts.

You can do all the flyers and on-field promotions with the MLL, but unless there's a reason/pay-off to get the website, you're not going to drive traffic.

Just a couple of thoughts...

Zima

Did someone say Zima? I agree with everything regarding responsible drinking, but please tell me zima was a misprint.

Sonny,
Have you contacted anyone about advertising at the First Four event? What about promos at the the NCAA varsity games? Agreed that we should stay away from the connection between the website and alcohol, as JP stated earlier. But lanyards, bumper stickers, t-shirts can all be printed up for cheap. I understand that the budget is low but even recruiting some students to get out and stump for the site might do some good to bring people to the site.

Haha yeah I was joking. I agree with LaxRef...I drink more soda in koozies than I do beer.

just my 2 cents...

The USF WLAX team handed out 2 things every college kid needs: 1) pens, and 2) bottle/can opener keychains.

They had our logo and website, and the bottle opener does not necessarily promote alcohol use.

I keep several dozen pens in the car with me, and drop them all over town every time I need to sign a receipt, and the girls hand them out to friends.

We have generated a lot of recruiting and sponsor interest... more hits with recruits than sponsors, though :(

sometimes it takes a $150-300 to get your name out there.

Decent sized vinyl signs can run you anywhere between 60-250 for full color signs.

Getting the web address and logo in lax magazine or catalogs is also a good idea.

Pens and bottle openers to get your name out there huh? $150-300 ought to be enough? I see you have 45 hits on your website, which is at least two months old. Money well spent.

Actually she has had over 36,000 hits and 10,000 page requests since starting the site in the beginning of October (I probably accounted for 3000 requests and 500 pages when designing it). Looks like that counter is something new they just added.

hehe, no worries. It would be interesting to see when she handed out the items and what kind of effect it had, and if it caused that jump in traffic in the 3rd week (since the first is skewed by my work on it).

I doubt you'd see as much of a dramatic increase on this site since there's already a lot more traffic coming in, but Sonny's got some new-fangled statistics software from Google running so at least he would be able to see the return on his investments in advertising and what is effective and what isn't.

Not to digress, but I think you are talking about Google Analytics. It's a very powerful free tool!

it should be... considering i just loaded that counter a couple days ago.

glad it worked for you, since the counter has stalled for me the last couple times i checked the site.

150-300 was for one team at a negotiated cost.

so don't hate. :)

thanks for the page info, will. didn't have the up-to-date info on it. again, many props for your page format!!

Bumper stickers always go well. This summer at the NDP in Chicago (Midwest Cup?) the stickers ran out midway through the tournament. People were walking from 5-6 fields away to get another lax sticker for their car.
