Hard Hitting Teams

Agreed. If you want to hit for the sake of hitting go play club rugby or join the UFC tour.

You know "hitting", and the focus on hitting was one of the biggest things for me to adjust to when seeing lacrosse in the midwest. There was such a big emphasis placed on it, that I still fail to understand. Its definitely all about the skill level. The biggest hit I ever saw was on a shot, that broke the D-man's cup. Delayed the game for 1 hour. I'll never forget the helicopter landing at the 50 yard line.

I can honestly say from first hand knowledge that Michigan's ride is very effective. But, I wouldn't say hard-hitting. They are active, aggressive, and will not allow you an easy clear. This is a team dedication to doing all the little things right. It's what makes them as good as they are.

We had a guy, Bryant Jarrell, from '99-'03 who just absolutely train-wrecked kids. I believe he was a linebacker in high school, but he played with an intensity that's rarely seen. He was an All-American his junior year at Tech, so it wasn't like he was just headhunting. Also, he hit so hard that refs thought they had to call something, even though the hits were clean. In one game Ken asked one ref, 'what's the penalty?' and the ref replied 'He popped him good'. He did get a few deserved penalties for unnecessary roughness, but for the most part his hits were clean. Here's one series from Dave Adams... there are a few more floating around somewhere, including a great picture from the '02 SELC tournament. I'm sure Danny, Matt Garibaldi and a few other guys on here can elaborate on how hard he hits .

Although completly unnecessary it was always a huge momentum swinger like a big dunk or diving catch. I would say minnesota lax is a lot more physcial because of the hockey background that many of us come from. I wouldn't say it is a good thing, it is just our Style....

The hits are not that hard though. The players here do like to try to it, but I have never had a hit that I remember thinking that was a good one.
