Please don't break out the "its only div B" or Guru's fav "SOS". Or the "WCLL is the only good league". Its just a pretty cool accomplishment, take it as such.

no offense, but i'm getting pretty tired of hearing this b.s. from players outside of the wcll. very few, if any, of the wcll'ers on this board over tout their league. facts are facts gentlemen, other leagues (outside of the rmlc) can't hold a candle to the wcll. secondly, facts are facts, s.o.s. does matter my man. sure, it is a great accomplishment, but i doubt the kid would produce those same #'s against higher caliber teams. i guess we will have to wait and see how lu does in blaine, if they make it, or wait till next year to see how they do in their scheduling.

Players leading in Points

Postby Karl Lynch on Thu Apr 14, 2005 11:27 am

It seems as though a lot of the players with lots of points are from smaller and less competitive schools.

I just quickly looked at the Division A stats page. I don't know that you can make that statement.

#1 Justin Combs, Lindenwood (Top 25 Team)
#2 Chris Files, UNT (LSA)
#3 Pat Copus, Cental Michigan (CCLA)
#4 Peter Burns, St Mary's College (WCLL)
#5 Nick Dean, UCSD (Top 25 Team)
#6 Danny Metoyer, Chapman (Top 25 Team)
#7 Mike Christians, Simon Fraser (Receiving votes for top 25)
#8 Jon Bartoy, Central Michigan (CCLA)
#9 El Sonkin, Washington (Top 25 Team)
#10 Evan Fox, Univeristy of Michigan (Top 25 Team)
#11 Billy Binge, Oakland University (Top 25 Team)

When you make this list, you are in rare company because of your consistency at making plays over the entire season.

I think it's fair to say that UCSD, Lindenwood, Champan, Simon Fraser, Washington, Michigan, and Oakland are competitive.

I also think it's fair to say the UNT, St. Mary's, and Central Michigan play competitive schedules, not as competitive as CSU's, but definitely equal to each team's talent level. I agree that if UNT, St. Mary's, and Central Michigan played CSU's schedule you would see lower stats from these guys, but in the games they play, in the leagues they play in, they seem to dominate.

I can't comment on UNT or Central Michigan, but this statement is plain untrue as it pertains to St. Mary's. They do not dominate in the league they play in.

Through 8 games #6 Cory Noseworhty:

43 Goals and 29 assists for 72 points. I honestly think if Alabama and Nicholls State were not cancelled Cory could break 100 before playoffs.

I echo what also has been said, regardless of A or B 100 points is a great accomplishment. Period!

Not the teams the players.

Postby Karl Lynch on Thu Apr 14, 2005 1:41 pm

My reference was to the players, not the teams. Chris Files, Peter Burns, and Pat Copus seem to be dominate point producers in their respective leagues.

Understood, Karl. As gopherlax suggested above that some of these players may not put up those kind of stats if the competition were stiffer. For example in Burns' case (not to pick on him, but I know the level of competition they faced), he has piled up quite a few points averaging something like 7 points a game. However, when you look at the 3 teams they played who might be called "higher level of competition", Cal Poly, Cal & Santa Clara, he only scored 3 points in each of those games, not anywhere near the average.

As with any statistics, you have to take them with a grain of salt.

Since players from the WCLL don't come onto the boards and tout their skills or take pot shots at other leagues, why must their fans or alumni? It's obvious to see that the WCLL contains some of the most dominant teams in the country, but why does Joe "West Coast Surf Hack" Public need to come out and continually downplay other leagues if he is so certain his conference is where it's at? Me thinks thou doth protest too much...

Me thinks thou doth whine too much..... :) sorry I couldn't resist using your sarcasm against you.

Maybe I missed the last few threads, but I haven't been seeing the WCLL is better in quite a while.... Not that it mattered in the first place. If we stopped bringing up how other people are doing it, it might die, and we'd never deal with it again, atleast until the start of next season when the freshmen come in and really believe they are the best.

Congrats to all the guys that are scoring the points.

As for the arguement that these guys play less competitive teams, what would you say if someone from CSU was doing it? They're way better than the teams they're playing. It's because they are so dominant, no other team has a chance.... Again, congrats to all carrying their teams scoring 100 points, its a great personal accomplishment.

first of all let me start by saying that 100 points is amazing...anywhere any time against anybody anyone who doubts that can show me on the field how easy it is to do that in a season. secondly...i cant really comment on other leagues or other players in general...but i can say that the two players mention earlier in this post are ballers. justin combs at lindenwood and johnny t at harding are amazing players. i understand the argument that they may play lesser teams...but who decides...the mdia's biggest weekeness is that people on the west coast dont see teams on the east coast and vice versa...all i know about western illionis is who they beat and by how much, and they are in my confrence. thats not the most reliable information in lacrosse anymore. any team can go out and beat someone at any given time. the comment that suprises me is the completely asinine one about teams with 100 point scorers dont do as well as teams with 4 or 5 solid players...and that teams with 100 point scorers dont have the talent around them. first of all lets focus on LU and Harding, Lindenwood 14-0 ranked first in the GRLC-A and 15th nationally and are looking to head to MN and make some noise regardless of how the season ends for them...the things they have acomplished on the field this year are astounding and they have done very well. Harding 8-2, one of the losses being to Lindenwood, ranked first in the GRLC-B and 12th nationally and are also looking to head to MN and make some noise. i think that throws that out the window. as for the second part of the statement about not being sorounded by talent. i think its funny that both teams will finish with at least three other 30+ point scorers, they both have goalies with a 65% save percentage, and both teams have at least 15 players with points. to me...thats talent.

not to take away from the great accomplishments of the previously mentioned players, but...

Players on top 10 teams' stats tend to get canibalized by the talent surrounding them. Any starter for a CSU or Sonoma would put up incredible numbers on a non-top 25 team or a div b team. There just aren't enough balls to go around on top teams.

Its like when Miami had Clinton Portis and Ken Dorsey, they hurt each other's heisman campaigns because they played on the same team.

One more thing

Postby gopherlax27 on Thu Apr 14, 2005 6:09 pm

I too want to make it clear....props for those who are putting up crazy stats because a goal is a goal any way you look at it. But how many of those smalelr schools (A or B) are running an offense thats meant to get looks to everyone and not just to the star player? I would assume that if a team was running an offense that a guy would not get every look everytime unless the defense was terrible. Once again props to those puttin up stats but theres nothing wrong with clarifying or qualifying the numbers by saying that if dude X was either on a better team or faced better competition that they would not be getting as many goals and assists.

listen!!!

Postby danza on Fri Apr 15, 2005 3:32 am

ok, gopherlax just listen... the things u just said are based on absolutely nothing. do u know what offense a "smaller" team runs. cuz its certainly not just running around getting one guy the ball always. in the case of tomassoni and combs pepsi (above) covered you and u had no reason to respond except to see ur name on the board again.
if u actually read what he said he shows that both harding and lindenwood have at least three guys gonna finish with 30 or 40 plus the one guy goin for 100. and both teams have between 15 and 20 guys who have scored.when someone is good their gonna find a way to score and it doesnt look like either team is feeding just one guy the ball. but since u know their offenses u should know what they are doin.
dont just post for the sake of posting actually say something.
