The NCAA bailing out the university...it was a nice story last year, they came up a bit short, now let's move on.

Unfortunately there is no "perfect" way for the NCAA to right what was wronged. The "unfairness" of getting an extra season I believe is balanced out by the advantage all the other teams had in not facing Duke during the 2006 NCAA tournament.
Perhaps the old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" applies to the NCAA here, with all the criticism.

There are arguments for both sides. I was very surprised That the NCAA chose to grant this request. Whatever your opinion, Duke University now owes the NCAA Board of Directors BIG TIME for bailing them out. An extra year of eligibility plus a financial settlement package tends to dampen the ardor of even the most litigious folk.

Interesting point, I doubt the Duke administrators understand the gift they have been given.Hugh Nunn wrote:An extra year of eligibility plus a financial settlement package tends to dampen the ardor of even the most litigious folk.

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I'd bet a C-note that they were lobbying (or at least praying) VERY hard for it.
