Lacrosse Magazine 2007 Preseason College Rankings
BALTIMORE — Five defending national champions have been picked to repeat as title-winners in 2007 in Lacrosse agazine's annual preseason college rankings, released today.
The rankings, compiled by Lacrosse magazine staff with consultations from coaches, predict Virginia's men and Northwestern's women to successfully defend their 2006 NCAA Division I championships. Le Moyne was selected to repeat in NCAA men's Division II, while Onondaga (men) and Anne Arundel (women) were tabbed the favorites to win National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championships, as they did last season.
The women's team at C.W. Post, which lost to eventual champion Adelphi in the 2006 NCAA Division II semifinals, was picked to win this season. Division III will see new title-winners in Salisbury (men) and Middlebury (women). The Sea Gulls had their run of three straight national titles and a 69-game winning streak snapped by Cortland, 13-12 in overtime, in last year's championship game. The Panthers reached the national semifinals a year ago before falling to eventual champion College of New Jersey, picked to finish as runner-up this season.
Lacrosse magazine is the flagship publication of US Lacrosse, a 200,000-member, non-profit organization that serves as the sport's national governing body. The magazine, the first feature publication devoted to lacrosse, celebrates its 30th year of production in 2007. It is now a monthly magazine, and subscriptions are available via membership in US Lacrosse (visit www.uslacrosse.org to join or for more information).
The rankings appear below and in the January of Lacrosse magazine. Expanded college previews will run in both the February and March issues. Join US Lacrosse prior to Jan. 9 to start a subscription with the February issue.
US Lacrosse also maintains an Internet component of the magazine, Lacrosse Magazine Online (LMO), at www.laxmagazine.com. Like the print publication, LMO covers all levels of the sport. It is updated constantly throughout the season.
