Is PIAA acceptance the next step? (State sanctioning?)

Postby Sonny on Mon May 29, 2006 9:42 pm

The state sanctioning issue is pretty hot in a lot of different areas across the country, so I decided to post this in the main forum to generate some additiona discussion. Minnesota just got sanctioned for boys H.S. lacrosse.

It could change the face of boys lacrosse in this area.

And it's debatable on whether that change is good or bad for the state of boys lacrosse in this area.

With the exception of indoor track and ice hockey, most scholastic sports are endorsed by the PIAA.

That is also not the case when it comes to boys lacrosse, but it appears a matter of time before that happens.

PIAA executive director Brad Cashman was quoted in the Intelligencer-Journal of Lancaster in January saying that boys lacrosse was being seriously considered for being added to the PIAA. And other published reports have indicated that the organization will vote on the issue this summer.

If approved, how will it change how the sport is currently governed?

Wouldn't it have been so nice if they had only told everyone what PIAA stands for instead of just assuming we all knew already?!?!? :D

Sorry, I will try harder next time to keep you informed.

PIAA = Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Many teams don't want to be state sanctioned. This could limit a lot of playing options. IE) out of state trips. A lot of the teams in Western PA, are solid programs without this recognition.
